(note did not post this in the support section as it is not for this game)

well i am trying to get Mechwarrior 3 running again, i set up a windows XP virtual machine on my laptop, and am running it in windows 98 compatibility mode. game is installed and everything. however when i try to play it, the game throws an error saying that the video device is failing to initialize. i tried looking around google for answers, however none of them helped. would you guys have any suggestions on how to fix this?

note: i tried installing directX more than once in the 6 8.1b and 9.0c varieties.

well i managed to get past the error, however another one popped up if i use the fix i found. by disabling integration with the virtual machine the game's opening video will run, however it is at 540x360 and when i get to the main menu it doesn't allow button clicks.
