How About Some Simple, Logical Changes That Should Have Been Done Long Ago

1. Color code chat so that you know what team someone is on, especially kill spam
2. No futuristic war machine would be vulnerable because a light mech ran up under its guns (more depression in weapons systems, guided munitions, weapons in legs, etc.)
3. No targeting system could be defeated by coming up from behind, radar is 360, cameras in back, whatever (heck even a rearview mirror system would prevent that)
4. ECM as effective as in this game now would mean the end of battle by such machines
5. Vision systems such as night vision would have filters so that bright weapons flashes would not blind you
6. The heat monitor in the HUD would NOT be uselessly at the bottom but would be a circle around your reticle that you could constantly monitor without taking eyes off targets, this is not a matter of convenience, it is a matter of life and death.
7. Chat should be T for team and y (yell) for all (yes I know those keys can be reassigned)
I would be interested in responses that show why the game does not have the features listed above.

Of all the things on the list, even though in game it means really nothing the chat thing has always bothered me.
How did they get that one wrong?

rofl -- Actually, when playing this as a kid in the 80's we always complained that current tech (80's) was better than what was available in the game supposedly 1000 years in the future.

TIred of tabbing whenever I see two unfamiliar news about who killed who. (Its even worse in conquest mode)
Agree with the heat indicator too, some miniature duplicate near the crosshair would be nice, or have it just fill the bottom of the crosshair with red color.
PGI still derping in creativity as always.

Welcome to the battletech universe, and Mechwarrior's interperation of it.
There has to be weaknesses and not everything makes sense.
Deal with it or don't play.

2-3. Welcome to Battletech
4. No clue what you are after.
5. Actually you have a point here, lore wise all mechs have a system to take the edge of laser weapons hits Still QoL
6. Seeing how it takes about 0.3 sec to check your heat.. Not worth spending time on.
7. You solved this one your self.
This is how i look at your issues, not saying that it invalidates your opinion but i feel that there are a ton more important things to spend time on.

That is true for everything but the chat.
The way they do chat in this game is nothing short of stupid.

It's not based off possible technology it is based off a game balance decision. In the BT universe you have 360 degree vision & sensors crammed into a narrower point of view in your HUD so you can see behind you with a few glances right or left. In MWO they wanted us to have to rely on that "team" thing and so we can only see/lock/shoot targets ahead of us. In the BT universe some mechs mount weapons in their back torsos or can flip their arms about to shoot directly behind themselves.

Yep,color coded kills would help also. But why would it kill spam?
2. No futuristic war machine would be vulnerable because a light mech ran up under its guns (more depression in weapons systems, guided munitions, weapons in legs, etc.)
Knockback will take care of this problem
3. No targeting system could be defeated by coming up from behind, radar is 360, cameras in back, whatever (heck even a rearview mirror system would prevent that)
I'm ok with 180° radar
4. ECM as effective as in this game now would mean the end of battle by such machines
Why? ECM is fine, it could need a buff. Too much LRM in the game ;-)
5. Vision systems such as night vision would have filters so that bright weapons flashes would not blind you
Read the command chair. Vision modes will get a an overhaul the 2/04/2013
6. The heat monitor in the HUD would NOT be uselessly at the bottom but would be a circle around your reticle that you could constantly monitor without taking eyes off targets, this is not a matter of convenience, it is a matter of life and death.
If you need to look at the heat monitor you are doing it wrong.

Keys can be reassigned. I think everyone has their preferences

Let's all just play games that are perfect. Oh wait, this game is perfect. Stop development now!!
The thought that keeps popping up during play is that in World of Tanks, a WWII based game (note based) I get more and better information. (Well, not if I'm on fire, that's still a problem, but I have asked them to improve that too.) Oh shoot, I've asked for a change, I guess I'll have to quit WoT. *sigh*

AlexEss- your .3 secs estimate is wrong and if you look-up how the eye works, perception, and change of attention, you will find that the change would be more significant than you claim. Plus, I am not just making this stuff up from thin air. I have played other games where such target critical info is on the reticle the game plays better, and as my post indicates, more logically.

Playing this game for 3 matches (yes ok I have played a great many matches, but only 3 would get all the following) makes clear the following even to rank amateurs:

1. I think all chat should be team chat (no enemy chat at all), but PGI beleives freedom of speach includes requiring someone to listen.
2. I have never had a problem with this. Even from an elevated position I can fire my arm mounted weapons below my feet. But even if it is an issue, I heard crouching and knockdowns will be introduced.
3. I had a problem with this when I started playing (and even before I got into beta), but I have changed my opinion. This particular quirk is a crucial part of information warfare, and with a little practice, you learn how to sneak up on enemies, and how to avoid the same. I would hate to see this particular feature go, it is the one thing I have completely changed my opinion of since I started playing (and improving).
4. Yeah ECM appears to be something the devs do not know how to fix or balance.
5. Agreed, fortunately they just posted regarding new vision enhancements in the Command Chair, unfortunatley it means the best counter to ecm (Thermal) isn't going to work as well. but it also means I can quit switching to thermal at the start of every match.
6. customizable hud would be cool, although I would probably start removing things from the target retical rather than add them.
7. this was explained as a standard gaming convention, I don't know I don't play multiplayer games. but it is a non-issue since it can be remapped.
