I'm looking forward to having better / deeper Pilot Experience Trees sometime in the future.
Instead of the existing system, it would be neat if you had to make some tough choices about choosing skills as pilots develop.
Skills should be broken out into 3 major tree:
- Piloting: skills related to movement (i.e. better turning, acceleration, climbing inclines /declines, Jumping, standing up, etc.)
- Gunnery: skills related to shooting (i.e. rate of fire, accuracy, etc.
- Engineering: skills related to pushing the design envelop of the Mech (i.e. fast ignition, various heat management bonuses,etc.)
Pilots should also be able to gain experience in various Mechs, and be transferable. Let the player be able to have multiple pilots (just like in World of Tanks), and gain experience here and there. Maybe pilots could be susceptible to injury, and may have to sit out a couple of games if badly injured. This would bring in cockpit ejection options, like in TT (do you stay in the game a little longer, or eject your pilot to keep him healthy?)
