If the devs are playing around with different sound effects (as is evident in the last patch), I'd personally like to hear a more substantial sound effect from shooting the gauss rifle. The new reloading sound (I think it's new?) is pretty spiffy, but the old "Psshaaw" sound when you shoot it sounds very...underwhelming. It sounds like an air hose letting off some pressure.

I mean, this is a heavy, dense slug being accelerated to a very high velocity by powerful electromagnets. Maybe faster than the speed of sound? The gauss projectile velocity is listed as 1,200, but I'm not sure what the units are. Granted, there's no chemical propellant, so I'm not expecting a "boom" (we get that already with the ACs), but how about a clean, sharp "KRAAK!"

If you want to rationalize it, maybe that's the sound of high energy capacitors discharging all at once to drive the electromagnets, or the sonic disturbance of a very fast project leaving the barrel of the rifle...

Now this is interesting. I hadn't thought about it that way, but your absolutely right, the slug will go supersonic (possibly hypersonic) either before or after leaving the electromagnetic chamber; to me that means we should hear a load Crack as it breaks the sound barrier.

Yeah when it recycles it should sound like a garbage truck compacting or maybe they could sample nails on a chalkboard to really round out the annoying recycle sound pack.

IRL says Gauss/Rail cannons go *crack* with a low oscillation *thud*

Yeah, right now the gauss sounds a bit too much like a laser "pew"

It should make a loud cracking sound and then a slight low frequency charging sound afterward.

I think your right Xacharon, their should be a sharp crack as the gauss rifle fires. I do like that clip Cpt beefheart, I remember watching that once before and thinking,
"why can't I have that on my van?"
at any rate, they will probably use a clapper to produce the sound.

Nice find! Ok, so there could be a boomy part of the sound (can't argue with reality). Mostly, I would like to hear a more viscerally satisfying sound when shooting the gauss rifle, and in a way that makes it unique from Autocannons while still making "sense". :)

Cool idea, and I agree. I just hope they don't decide to use dubstep.
