That's right, it's Koniving. The guy who blabs a lot of helpful and sometimes not so helpful stuff is now in need of a helping hand. Specifically I need a good replacement headset. I used to use Turtle Beach brand. They sound great, they feel great. They're made like the Spider 'Mech. Paper thin. Every single pair I've owned has broken before the 6 month period of ownership. Put 'em on, wear 'em a few months and squish! No good! It wasn't so bad when it was 40 dollars, but now the cheapest Turtle Beach headsets are 70 dollars locally. This makes them too expensive to be worth their salt.

I'm certain it doesn't help that I'm 6'5" and my head is far from tiny. Those head bands are always hollow because of the way they 'extend', and this is where they always break. I went with a warranty and so I'm getting a check back. My plan is to buy a new headset. However it's pretty clear I need to avoid turtle beach.

So I need a decent headset around 70 dollars or less. I'd love to find some with a metal headband, however I don't think that's happening.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

P.S. Before anyone suggests an 11 to 13 dollar logitech headset, the quality on those things is awful to say the least. It needs to be of a good, pleasant quality for youtube videos. No one wants to watch someone that's got an irritating microphone. :P

My brother uses Skullcandy, which is designed for a phone. He loves it. It comes with or without mic (double check before you checkout). Though it's not a metal band, it's hugely expandable. However, to work with a PC, you need an adapter, which goes for about $12 on Amazon.

Adapters make things complicated.

I'll try the Senheiser. May try the on-ear design. Those can't possibly break, at least not the same way the others have.

This is what i use:

http://www.newegg.co...CFY9AMgodQz4ALg

Logitech H390

Cost me $31 at Target, but this was the first site that popped up, so you can hunt around for better price.

Good sound and comfortable to wear.

I use a logitech H800 myself. It's not weightless but it is pretty nice. It's a wireless usb headset, can be used plugged in or unplugged. I got it because I was tired of breaking headsets forgetting to take them off and standing up, having the wire pull and catch on things. Cost a hundred bucks tho.

Expensive. Neat suggestion. Issue is without a microphone, there's no point. That's what they invented speakers for.

Price is pretty good. How does it sound on video? That's pretty important. The issue with the Logitech I'm currently using is it makes me sound 10 years younger and it's really quiet on Fraps despite being set as loud as it possibly can go.

Does anyone have a video or audio sample of how the Sennheiser sounds?

Iti'll be a bit before that warranty check shows up.

Hola,

I am using the Alienware TactX headset and so far am pleased with it, previously had a Plantronics set but I did not find them comfortable for long gaming sessions.

They seem good. I do like that they aren't trying to "crush" the user's head according to the images I have found of it. Forming a good U shape rather than trying to forcefully close into a circle is a good sign. As I mentioned I'm tall, and my head stretches most headsets out to a V...which significantly reduces their potential life. My concern is with the flexible ear muffs; that leaves me with another potential 'break' point.

These are built by Steel Series and are the 5Hv2 model, braided wiring. The Alienware version is the same product, however they are $20 less than from Steel Series.

I have this headset:
http://www.amazon.co...t/dp/B00B1KJK22

The sound quality is nice on both the mic and the earphones. Surround is good also and the price for a quality usb heaset is rather good.
I cannot however say if this is the best headset for you.

Personally I use the new Mad Catz F.R.E.Q 5. Am 6 foot tall, has metal headband that fits, good build, sound good definition, but a little quiet.
I looked at Sennheiser a ways back, but then you looked at dinkum Pilots headset to get anything with a mike. As a set to listen to, very good. Just don't know about the gaming stuff they have nowadays.

Sorry... Nothing that cheap. I've broken so many Logitec headset now and even a few Plantronics that I decided to go full out.

http://www.razerzone...razer-tiamat-71

Note: Their cheaper headsets seem fraught with issues the Tiamat 7.1 doesn't have. I've heard good and bad about the Meglodon which is still twice what you want to pay.

Best advice is check around online and pay special attention to customer reviews for headsets, they can be very informative.

a Logitech G330 is what I was using before I got a Sennheiser PC 350... it's around 50$, a USB headset that sounds pretty nice with some bass boost. I recommend it!

When i first put the headset on, i had to take it off because i thought the sound was coming from my regular speakers. For me the sound is great for gaming and TS. I dont use it to listen to music and stuff, but the mic is pretty good too from what others tell me.

if outside sounds aren't a problem go with some nice over ear headphones and a three dollar clip-on mike fro amazon. if noise is a prob buy good I'd suggest that with your size issue you make sure to get headphones that turn out so you can wear the band behind your head

The turtle beach x12 earforce have all the connections for both pc and consoles. It has a built in amplifier and dials for volume and voice levels which adjust the voice volume of other players in console chat. Think I paid 40 and change and am quite pleased with the quality and the bass response considering the price.

The only thing I find annoying is the length of the cable as it can reach across a room if need be. It does come with velcro cable ties so you can bundle and shorten them.
