All of these numbers don't mean anything.

Unless we get an official verified tally the numbers can be whatever.

So who cares about the conjecture. Ask the Devs.

I wish they would bring back that listing of how many are online.

So one quick (but crude) was to estimate active players online is to just multiply the number of people on the forums by either 20x or 10x.

So say there are 470 people visiting the forums right now? That's about 4,700 - 9,400 people playing online.

Uh no. You can't estimate concurrent users online by checking how many people are on the forums at the moment. There's no connection.

You can probably estimate TOTAL playerbase numbers by seeing the total number of forum users.

It was officially stated that there were just over 100,000 active players less than two weeks ago during the last weekend contest. So that's your best and most official reference point. Anything else is pure conjecture and rumor.

That was 100,000 in addition to the 8,000 ish who opted in for the tournament that weekend.

And all that meant is that over the weekend 108,000 people logged on and played at least one match. What was it Fri/Sat/Sun?

So 108,000 over 72 hours...yaddayadda math....there could have been like 1,500 to 3000ish players online at any given time.

Guestimating. Obviously. Only a few serious players probably put in more than 2 hours a day if that.

The numbers can't really be accurate as many players run more than one account. I used to use an account under the name of Draxes but left for a while and came back. Started this account and began all over. Figure in all the team killers, afkers, and others that try different accounts and the numbers begin to inflate quite a bit.
