I prefer G9x. Deeply customizable and programmable mouse without useless shiny lights.
Precise, handy button placement, nice short and wide body.
Only problem - stock middle button need too much pressure to use.
Good news - it can be fixed by yourself in about 15 minutes by removing spring.

As a sidenote, they have also just released an upgraded version of it to make it even better. Check it here:

I'd been looking for an upgrade with a couple more buttons than my Logitech M500 but the G500 is overkill for me. Need two more, not SEVEN more.

This is my go to mouse, I have tried others, but nothing quite as simple and solid. I like the mouse heavy and the textured grip as I grew up with a heavy old school ball mouse that I swear used a lead ball and my hands sweat a little bit on smooth mice. I tend to run only 3 weapon sets as the 4th mouse button is a bit of a stretch unless its on streaks or lrms.

If you plan to use the mouse simply for targeting without the need for more than 3-4 buttons choose something with high dpi and polling that can be adjusted on the fly. It's annoying to have those set high when doing precision aiming under zoom.
If you want something more generalized, there are many options that have adjustable dpi and polling with about 6-8 buttons.
If you have the ability or time, go to a store that has multiple units on display to see how they fit your hand. Feel how the mouse slides on the surface and check to see if the extra buttons are easy to reach for you.
All that said, I personally use a Razer Naga 2012 edition. It's about $60 right now and has more than enough buttons for me all within easy reach. It did take some getting use to before I could use the buttons on the side easily.

Personally, if I were you Fabe, I'd order from somewhere with a very generous return policy. Try out a few mice, get a feel for them. Much like shopping for a handgun for conceal carry; there's plenty of handguns that have higher caliber rounds, more ammunition, and exotic designs. But if you yourself cannot shot it properly because you can't handle the kickback, or the handgun is too small or too large for your hand, then it's practically useless...
As such, go and try all of the recommendations here. Perhaps there's a few you can try out at your local Bestbuy, but if not, order a few, keep the best, and return the rest.
As for me, I tend to lean towards Razer. They are overpriced, but I've had (mostly) reliable products from them over the years, but Razer has plenty of doozies just like Logitech across the aisle.
For my mouse, I went with a Deathadder. For my own needs, it has great ergonomics, the design is faily simple with decently large primary mouse buttons, a clickable-scroll wheel that counts for mouse button three, and two well placed side buttons on the left side of the mouse as Button Five and Six (for the right-hand version). It also has one of arguably the best sensors on the market, as the Phillip Twin-eye in later Razer mice has been suspect. Also, you can get the Deathadder for about $50 on Amazon. The software is pretty good too, just make sure to get the original software, not the Synapse 2.0 software. And uh, make sure to turn off the backlight on the mouse, as it gets fairly hot, unless you have cool hands.
In MWO, I tend to use the primary for Weapon 1, second for Weapon 2, Button 4 for my microphone, Button 5 for Weapon 3.
For more information on the Deathadder, I present the wonderful megathread from the people over at overclock.net:

They've really done their homework, and they made my research easier. It also gives you an idea that, if you're new to this sort of research, that mouse performance is much more complex than cranking up the DPI beyond 11 .
Anyhoo, hope that helps, and happy mouse hunting!

Youngblood, I bought a CM Storm mouse. I RMAed it within 3 matches. The sensitivity was way too low in Windows and way too high in-game, and it seemed to change DPI settings randomly.
Osiris, I prefer the mouse because I'm used to it. I think it does offer more support for extra buttons than a mouse, but if you're good with it, use it.

Got a lot of mouses adviced to me, tried the majority out, but none of them fitted my hand and my needs both a the same time. So for me I ended up with a roccat kone xtd, fits my hand perfectly and has just the amount of buttons I need.
Mouses are just very very personal so just get what fits you indeed like others said, 1 mouse might be great for some people, but totally not fit your hand or needs in which case it is just as good as the 10usd mouse you can pick up at your local comp store
