As described here: http://mwomercs.com/...ontrol-options/ the game is looking to implement arm lock.
Instead of making it so that the arm lock is just toggle in-game, this looks like some wierd hybrid of game options and in-game foolery.
Instead I would like to suggest what the game options does.
Game options would allow you to configure the 'shift' key to either toggle or hold mode AND set it's default.
This would allow people to use the 'shift' (arm lock/unlock) as they see fit.
As it is now I see the following issue:
I play my huchback, need to have arm swing, rarely need lock. So I leave the game as is.
I then switch to my cataphact 4x and now have to hold down the 'shift' key every match the whole match.
Or I have to go to: game options -> toggle mode -> back to launch screen.
Every time I switch mechs, I have to go back to the options screen depending on what my default is.
Easier: Configure the 'shift' key to be a toggle. Then I can switch it on and off for each mech. (Hopefully the game can remember, but I'm not hoping on this one). Then in testing grounds I could set it for each mech.
As is, it looks cumbersome in order to switch mechs.

I was going to start the same kinda thread, but did a search first. Great job devs this is a cool addition, but it absolutely needs a toggle option.

Umm....it's in the works. It's called free Reticule and locked Reticule. Free is the current state of the game now, they've already talked about the fact they are going to have a toggle to lock your reticule.

Read the dev post carefully. It is currently only slated to unlock the arms (or lock them if the setting in the control options is switched) while the shift key is being pressed. This topic suggests there be an option to make it a toggle - like many FPS games do with crouch - having either press and hold or toggle options.
You might have 2 settings in the control options instead of the dev's 1:
Arm Lock Setting (default on or off) - the dev's 1
Arm Lock Toggle (press once or press and hold) - proposed addition

I think a toggle is definitely needed, not that I'll be using it.

YES toggle, I am a lefty and it is hard to keep the shift down and mouse a at the same time.
I like Phantasm5's suggestion of adding a second choice to the option.
