I've been running a 4x LL build at the moment, great for finishing shots with the new HSR, and can also snipe a little with jumpjets and good aim. Currently gathering cbills for starting Centurion training, will soon buy the 7mil one to start them. That'll give me a 300 xl engine, and I've been toying around with the idea of adding a gauss to the lineup. This is what I came up with. Having the gauss on the torso for the better snipe launch spot.

CTF-3D

I know the risks of the XL, especially with gauss, but I get cored instead of torso blown usually 90%+ of the time (I guess going up the ELO bracket slowly helps with that too =P). Any suggestions? Moving the LLs to the torsos, well ... against lights and terrain height differences that could be quite brutal, but for sniping would sure help ...

I like having the LLs in the torso myself. The arms seem to be so much lower that I always fire the first shot into the ground as I peek over a ridge.

Maybe move the DHS from the arms to the torso.

For me the 4 LL setup was the best mainly b/c I just can't hit with the gauss. Also used ER LLs and LLs together for a good combo.

Whenever I use an XL I want to be as fast as possible. Being slow in an XL is killing. So for the 3D I started with a 340XL. This makes it faster than anyone would expect really. And it still leaves you with plenty of room for weapons:
CTF-3D.
The dual ac/10 is sort of like running an ac/20 only with a lot more range and faster reload. I don't run out of ammo often but when I do it doesn't really matter that much because I still have 4 medium lasers left and the speed to get them close to the enemy. It's kinda unconventional but I really like it.

You don't need 20 armor on the rear side torsos. The hitboxes for those sections are absolutely tiny, I use 10. I agree with the suggestion to put the LL on the torso. Other than that, it seems pretty solid.

edit: Pkunk's build inspired this: CTF-3D
I prefer Gauss over AC/10 and with the saved tonnage you take two of the medium lasers up to larges and have two jump jets, all while moving at 79 kph.

i really like the dual ac10 4ml build, i run mine with an xl320 because i had one and 5 tons of ammo. best game i had with this setup was 1186 damage 7 kills. thats not typical mind you but its a very potent build. uac5s require you to maintain face time with enemy mechs and you have to trade blows. lb10's also work but again, you wont kill anyone fast with them.

ac10s however alow you to use cover more effectivly and as pointed out it acts like a ac20 with faster reload and better range.

I agree. If you are going to run an XL, put the biggest one you can in it, go with the XL 340 Speed is life.
That's simliar to the build I use, and do really well with it. Less DHS and more armor on mine, but I have a little bit of a heat issue. Pkunk's build gets rid of the heat issue, I'll have to try it.

Simple poptart build with 1 gauss and 1 er ppc, 4 jumpjets, and a standard 300 engine. A lower alpha than other poptarts but more survivability. I tried positioning the weapons in the left/right torsos but the side torsos are easy to hit and found they got critted often. They last a lot longer in the arms and you gain the ability to sniper targets up high or down low.
