To celebrate the coming advent of magic in MWO, I thought it fitting to make descriptions more accurate.

Coolant Flush
Potion of Stamina
- Effect: imbibing this weightless potion magically restores part of the the users stamina enabling the user to continue fighting beyond ordinary exhaustion

Air Strike
Scroll of Call Lightning
- Effects: the reader calls lightning from the skies to strike down enemies in a given area

Artillery Strike
Scroll of Meteor Swarm
- Effects: the reader summons a swarm of meteors to strike down enemies in a given area

But why stop here!

Consider:
Potion of Healing
- Effect: imbibing this potion restores a part of the the users health

Scroll of Iron Skin
- Effect: reading this scroll makes the users skin impervious to the next few attacks!

Quiver of everlasting arrows
- Effect: Ammo based weapons no longer requires ammunition!

Or, my favorite!

Sword of Slaying ECM Ravens!
- Effect: take a wild guess! (Unless you are an ECM Raven, in which case you are already dead!)

Post Scrimptum:
I love MWO, and would very much like it to continue to be a game of giant, stompy robots. I loathe the idea of bringing magic objects into the game. But hey! Why not be honest about it?

Coolant pods are in BT lore: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Coolant_Pod

Not too different from coolant flushes (flush = reduce heat by a set amount rather than boosting heatsinks, is a module rather than a standard slot and presumably does not take damage).

So that just leaves airstrikes and artillery strikes which you view as somehow magical?

lol lets be honest consumables was only implemented as a way to extract money from players. Its a bad game mechanic and can only hurt the game's money making potential in the long run

Urbanmech Drop Pod
-Drops an Urbanmech from orbit to fight by your side. The drop pod can be used to land on people's heads as a weapon.

MG Buff
-Causes any MG bullets fired by the user for the duration of the match to have a projectile speed of 2000 (default is 100, lol) and do 0.12 damage per bullet. Removes crit-seeking ability.

Flamer Buff
-Causes Flamers fired by the user for the duration of the match to fire in "bursts" (i.e. MW3 and MW4) which have a cooldown. Also allows Flamers to increase the heat of opponents (currently does not do that) and debuff the enemy's heatsink efficiency for a short period of time. Removes the crit-seeking attribute.

Orbital Ion Cannon
-"ION CANNON ACTIVATED!"

While the coolant flush in it's current form is a bit "magic" a simple debuff added to it making your heatsinks less effective after you use it (as you have less collant fluid in your mech) and they are very well grounded in reality.

As for the rest i am sure a friend of mine who did military service as a arty spotter (among other things) will be delighted to know that he can now call him self a wizard... he was always a bit jelly of that Potter bloke.

Calling in a Arty strike or a strafing run is not magic... And if you need a explanation as to why you only have one... just think of it as your CO not wanting you to call in arty every time there is a rock or small hill in your way.

Or you can just try and be a smararse and fail magnificently at it.

There's nothing inherently wrong with consumables, especially since they have confirmed the ones bought with CBills will be as effective as the ones bought with MC (even if you do need to spend GXP to upgrade them to the same performance - the difference is it's now paying for convinience, to access the higher level consumables earlier).

From Sarna:
"Each coolant pod weighs one ton and takes up one critical spot."

Some people will use a twist of RL to justify this but the OP is dead on. Consumables have no place in MWO. Its a bad ploy for money and will bring yet more headaches to a game that already has plenty that are being ignored.

I specified the module instead of critical, apologies for not specifying the weight, but that's why I provided the link. So you could check yourself.

There is plenty inherently wrong with them. They greatly exacerbate the gap between people with and without significant extra reserves of Cbills. It keeps solo players, who can't reliably steamroll enemy teams, poor while almost guaranteeing that organized players who can afford to rebuy consumables with their winnings after every win win more.

You don't build that sort of inertial mechanic into a game like this, it's destructive and stupid at it's best.

Would you rather the game go out of business?

Seriously, this same sort of **** happened, still happens with Hero Mechs. It may be a free to play game, but they still need to make money because there's no charity currently that ensures F2P games never close. Maybe you should petition UNICEF for that.

If you don't like it, get out.

It is magical when there are no artillery units that can be hunted down and shot to bits. It is magical when there are no air units that can be shot down.

Why?

Justify your statement.

Why does it have no place in MWO?

So it's magical because the game map isn't the entire planet, meaning you can't hunt down the arty / airbase?

Riiiiight...

Artillery and Air strikes make perfect sense in the setting, so I'm OK with them. I don't like them as a "consumable" though. Should just be a module that you can use X times per match, and only if you have the Command Console (or make the Command Console improve upon them.)

Wrong... It is unrealistic perhaps but on the other hand this is a skirmish game and not axis and allies... What good would it do you to traverse an area bigger then.. two perhaps ... alpine just to take out a arty gun. As for airstrikes and shooting them down... Hey i am all for it. If you want to spend time trying to shoot them down.. knock your self out (as long as we stick to the lore about regular mechs and their ability to hit spacefighters) either way you end up not shooting at me and that is good enough for me.

I fail to see how this is of any relevance to your argument... calling in a arty or an airstrike is still not magic... no matter how many years you spent in the army.
