Ok so i couldnt see a thread on the X-5 so i figured i would start one up.. ..what are your impressions?
Personally for me, putting SRM on the fastest medium mech out there was a big call from the devs, which i think pays off. The X-5 handles like a ferrari, looks like an obese Jenner and can pack enough firepower to take on the world!
Fitted with an XL 300 you can go a top speed of 133 with speed tweak - the drop from the 320 gives you a bit more extra space, great for the shopping or 2 SRM6!! To top it off, it comes as standard with Lazrs! For my model i have 2 small and 2 medium. This is a combined damage of 46.
Played this one all night last night and love it!!
So what are your thoughts?

It kinda wants to be a fast SRM backstabber, but having two-tube launchers means it's not actually very good at that role, so it ends up being a fat Jenner D that's a little bit worse in most ways. The Jenner D is the 3rd-best light mech in the game, so that's not a huge condemnation, but I would only recommend buying it if you really like the D and are willing to use a gimpier version to get a C-Bill bonus.

Have you tried it? Probably not, or else you would know that the 2-tube launcher means it can land ALL those SRMs at max range.
Deadly accurate. Same as the Trebuchet 7K.

Played two matches in the X5 last night, one with 2 kills and 970 dmg done and one with 4 kills and 945 damage done. It can be a very effective mech if used correctly.
Currently playing with a 300XL, 13 DHS, an SRM6 and an SRM4, plus 4 med lasers, although I'm not totally sold on the SRM 4/6 combo. Loving this mech... the staggered SRMs aren't really that big a deal, as they don't spread much. As long as you can hold a laser on a mech while moving you can probably do the same with the SRMs, and at least have most of them hit. Especially verse slower mechs this is not an issue. Against fast mechs, it actually improves on the "shotgun effect" people always talk about - if you can spread the missiles out effectively you're almost guaranteed to hit with 3-6 missiles, which against a light is significant. And yes, they're really accurate out to about 200m, even without Artemis, which gives you more effective range.
On the other hand, any time I see the "Incoming Missile" warning I shudder - with no AMS or ECM, LRMs can really ruin your day on open maps. Not such a big issue on some of the city maps, but on Caustic or Alpine it's brutal.
In terms of it being a bigger version of the Jenner, it is significantly more survivable in my experience, having piloted both. I know there's not THAT much more armor on the X5, but it feels that way, maybe because people prioritize "Jenner" over "Cicada" in their firing decisions.

1. Exactly - CHOOM CHOOM CHOOM!! If your leading correctly or have a good aim, you can actually get an SRM 6 where all the missiles hit a moving target - AND WITHOUT ARTEMIS!
2. *Shudders* I wont say anything other than its inert weakness is LRM spamming; my only advice if you have LRMS incoming and cant find cover, face them. They will tear apart your rear!

dual tubes = SRM4s to me. I enjoy them in my AWS 9M, dual-tubed SRM6 are a waste of time, ammo, their spread is not that tight and you won't be able to land all the 3 consecutive salvos while moving, ad you'll even trigger a longer recycle time.
If I had to buy it I'd surely have outfitted it like this: X-5
Unfortunateluy I'm not willing to waste real cash on a mech that if meets a 3L gets leveled to the ground with no effort by the raven. The thing is interesting, but the pain I had to exp the other non-3M cicadas.. One 6xML 19DHS CDA-2A can fill nearly the same role of striker/harasser and can enjoy some HSR against ravens..

I run with this. Runs a bit hot, but it certainly hits quite hard. With a bit of practice you can hit light mechs with some of the SRMs and take them down that way, and it's a ruinously powerful flanker if you can slip behind heavier mechs.

i saw someone call that 1-2 missle at a time fun, the A-AMS. the best is a raven 3L with an LRM20 in the arm.
