A thread for posting pictures and battles that were horribly imbalanced. All pictures must be edited to remove names; this is not a name and shame thread.

We won, but barely and only because I saw the DDCs and opted out of a brawl. You'll notice our only assault was an Awesome; this is another point against Elo without BV or some sort of balance: An Awesome may be an assault, but it is often grouped with Atlai and stalkers, two mechs that it simply can not go toe to toe with.

Seen 5 lights 3 heaves, against 6 assaults 2 mediums.
4lights 4 assaults, against 6 mediums 2 heaves.

ELO is fail, does not count weight high enough for the score. Should have just rolled with a BV system or stuck to tonnage matching.

Elo rocks. There is an issue with weight matching and PGI has said so, the question is how best to match it. The problem is that skill can account for a lot of difference with weight. A skilled heavy pilot can kill a couple of assaults. Hell, a good Medium pilot can kill some poorly piloted assaults.

There needs to be some weight balancing, no question. It needs to be balanced in with skill however. BV is a poor choice because balancing works differently in MWO for equipment loadout than it does in TT.

Elo is still 100x better than it used to be without.

I am not a huge fan of Elo either, but we actually do have to give the devs time to collect data and refine their MM program. They have said that it is a work in progress, and at a very early stage. Lets wait untill they have made a few adjustments before we *really* get mad.

It is hard to agree with that when I don't enjoy 50% of my games because they are something like the above.

I am pretty upset with it too, and I have an even lower % of fun games (because I really suck), but the fact is that the more games you play, the more accurate an Elo rating becomes. There are several problems with adjusting Elo to work in a team environment, and even more when those "teams" are actually groups of random people thrown together.

As much as I currently dislike the MM (and my displeasure is profound) I like MWO enough to give them time to get it right. Mainly because I am unaware of another option.

Blaming Elo rating is like blaming a hammer for smashing your fingers when you try to use it.

Well, the 4 DC guys seem like a premade. Elo can't handle premades.

Sure... it's all fun and games till you actually end up 5v8. the MM needs tons of help.

Elo without tonnage matching is like a chess match where one player can have all queens... However, I'd rather played varied chassis than run cheese, and will drop down to the appropriate elo level ;)

Haha! When I was in high school I joined a local chess club and taught children with special needs (ADD, autism, etc.) how to play chess. Giving them extra pieces, or removing my own queen from the board helped make it entertaining. My own chess teacher often played without his queen, even so never could beat him (even though at the time I was rated 16th in the country for my age group).

Edit: Sorry for going off-topic, this just brought back memories!
