I'll admit the medium laser placement is up to the user. in the torso to converge damage. in the arms to hit faster mechs. or my version which .... helps lead when peopel go to your left....

Summary:
This was the first mech i learned to pilot to a reasonable degree during closed beta (minus the Artemis/DHS/TAG - the build still works without them), mostly because it allowed me to hit things i normally couldn't due to very low FPS on my computer.

it works well in the open, even to an extent without a spotter (although, you'd probably want the adv sensor range modules for that), where the TAG/Artemis combo can make short work of most enemies, even with ECM-equipped mechs (just TAG em) The LRMs are the main weapon, but it can still dish out punishment to anyone closing the gap with triple Medium Lasers.

I run my weapon groupings as shown:

Left Shift: Group 6 = AC/2 (Right Torso)

I love this build it is literally my favorite build in-game.

The compliment of multiple ranges on the frame are great for anyone who enjoys diversity and coming into a battle with a few tricks up their sleeve.

The Large Lasers are great for putting pain on distant and nearby enemies while the AC/2 gives you a moderately quick firing plinker for sniping at those pesky Atlas D-DC's. The quick round speed on the AC/2 also allows for it to be useful in closer brawls, albeit situationally.

The dual SRM/4's in the left arm are great for melting armor and getting crits on stripped mechs components and fire all 8 rockets incredibly quick and tightly grouped thanks to the CTF-2X's missile pod being a 4x tube.

Overall this mech build is a lot of fun to pilot and gives you a feel of being a middle ground brawler at close and medium ranges, fully capable of conquering anything from Ravens to Atlai all while being very easy to learn.

This is a neat trial build that I think works pretty well. Quite fast, almost max armor. 3xPPC for ranged engagements, SRM6+SRM4 for people who duck under PPC range.

This mech gives a feel for long range weaponry while not being useless at close range with it's dual large lasers. It will also give the user a feel for Jump Jets and TAG equipment. I deliberately shied away from using PPCs since the state rewind has not been implemented yet on it, I also opted to not include artemis so as not to put extra LoS restrictions on the player. Trying to keep rules the player needs to know to a minimum. Instead I opted for additional heat sinks to keep the large lasers firing. The inclusion of a STD engine over an XL is again to limit the information the player has to know before piloting this mech.

CPLT-K2 XL

This 'Mech represents a substantial upgrade to the original CPLT-K2. Keeping with the original intent of a front-line direct-fire version of the Catapult, this variant adds to the original K2's firepower at all ranges. The internal structure has been upgraded to Endo-Steel, and the original STD 260 engine upgraded to a 280XL, taking advantage of this chassis' relatively small side torsos and giving the 'Mech improved speed and manueverability. A pair of AC/2's compliment the PPCs at long range, sharing the same projectile speed these are a deadly combination of cockpit shake and pinpoint damage. Filling in the gap at short range, the AC/2's give vastly improved brawling capability to the original. In addition the heatsinks have been upgraded to double, giving the PPCs effectively twice the cooling and sustainability.

Great versatile mech. Can snipe, skirmish, hit & run, hunt ECM lights, respond to base caps @ 104kph, outrun most opposition (or maintain distance) in reverse while laying down fire. Everything a new player needs.

I have taken the "efficient" to mean minimalist and I've tried to keep this in the theme of a Trial mech - something a new player can run, see areas they might want to improve or personalise it. A framework for a good build if you will.

So, quite basic. Only upgrade it has is Endo steel. Everything else can be improved upon after earning some cash. Yet it should still serve a new player well with little effort and give them a broad range of systems (Ballistic, Energy, Missile) to play with. I even squeezed in AMS so they get some protection from LRM etc.
