I have been running into players both cheering and crying about a future in game change to missiles due to the splash damage bug.

If the devs do this correctly it should not change your in game experience much at all. it should not nerf or buff anything noticeable in game to a major extent.

This is all a mechanics issue.

Meaning they were getting the desired balance in game from a broken set of numbers on the server.

I do not know if it is nerf or just bug repair but if they do it to LRMs I do not see some1 will use it include me(and I play LRM support for a long time).
And I am not talking about that overpowered piece of crap called ECM which caused I switched from LRMs to SRMs on my Trebuchets bcuz I was sick of 2-3 ravens 3L every game...

as far as I'm concerned a bug fix is not a nerf (I only have a catapult so I think it's safe to say I run LRMs frequently)

edit: I did find it odd that an LRM boat stalker was able to completely wreck my catapult in one volley without having de swirly lurms...normally it takes 2-3 of them

The bug that was found and analyzed has apparently been around close to six months or so.

It wasn't originally a bug. But as they added new mechs they balanced the mechs without checking to see what the number were in the back round.

So they knew a full volley of srms would kill a com when they balanced the com that isn't the bug. The bug is in the why.
