Mechwarrior has always been designed around using a joystick, but as a free-to-play title the default keyboard and mouse control scheme has to work well if the game wants to be successful. Having spent a lot of time playing previous titles in the series with a keyboard and mouse allow me to make a simple suggestion: the default binds for "turn left" and "turn right" should be mouse 1 and mouse 2 respectively. Traditional WASD controls don't work well for mechwarrior, but by consolidating movement and aiming to the mouse our entire left hand is free to target enemies, fire weapons, flush coolant, toggle the zoom window, etcetera.

That does feel a lot more intuitive than what mouse1/mouse2 are usually used for.

What about something like throttle? Mousewheel up to increase throttle / mousewheel down to decrease throttle or reverse. Might be better used to zoom or cycle weapons though.

They are adding new key binding on the 19th, also the default keys will change to new keys, soo when the patch comes out make sure to check the new keys before launching.. and in game, the new esc menu will have the option to change keys in game. (but you will be getting shot at while doing it.. so have fun.) After the 19th you might want to repost..

I rebind a large number of the keys routinely. I move weapon groups 1-4 onto mouse 1-2,3-5 (leave zoom on the wheel aka button 3). I move ECM mode toggle to F, thermals to G, and Night vision to V. This means that on almost all my mechs, I can run all the weapons from the mouse, and I only have to move my fingers off the WASD to change visual mode or switch my ECM. On the rare occupation that I have more than 4 weapon groups, I have groups 5 and 6 bound to 5 and t, thus requiring minimal movement. In this way I have all the controls I use often nicely grouped.
