All mechs should have 4 non-hero variants. This would allow for avoiding one variant that may or may not match your play style. Don't want to be forced into a useless spider with ballistics? Have a moral objection to ecm? Fear no more!

Let me first say I am not beholden to canon. I assume when writing any book, datasheet, or technical read out you are subject to certain space limitations. The idea that in the future with huge battlemechs that some one couldn't bolt on a weapon here or there, or switch an arm out here or there to make a variant is ridiculous to me. However if you have a more canonical variant or any variant at all please suggest it.

The following chassis only have three non-heroic variants.

Dragons
Centurions
Spiders
Ravens
Jenners

All of the other chassis in mech warrior have at least 4 non heroic variants, some even have five!

This injustice needs to be corrected!

I propose:

The DGN-2E (Based of the DGN-2Y)
LA: Gauss Cannon (1B)
LT: 2x STD Heatsinks (AMS)
CT: SRM4 & Flamer (1M, 1E)
H: Small Laser (1E)
RT: Case, 2x Gauss Ammo, 1x SRM Ammo
RA: Large Laser (2E)
Armor: 400 Standard
Engine: 255 XL

Why a variant like this. Offers a head mounted energy weapon also offers an energy slot in the center torso.

The CN9-Ah was already in the game, just re-add it. I'd be like the A except without the torso lasers that make it extra deadly. It also mitigates the no arm build of the A by doing away with the torso lasers. Includes the flexibility to use an AC-20 or 2UAC-5's

The RVN-4Lr is a canon mech although some what out of time line for the standard equipment, Never Fear I'll fix it.

LA: 2x Small Lasers (2E)
LT: 1 Medium Laser, 1 SRM 2 (6), (1E, 1M)
CT: 2 Heatsink
H:
RT: Case, 1x SRM Ammo, 1 Medium Laser, (1E) (AMS)
RA: 1 SRM 2 (6) (1M)
Armor: 160 Standard
Engine: 310 XL (up to a 315)
Upgrades: Artemis IV, Endo-Steel

I call this the Raven-3L hunter. It's faster and has a better weapons load out capabilities without needing to lock on. Fills that need in the food chain.

I don't know much about Jenners or Spiders so please feel free to add your own or debate mine below me.

I agree with the overall premise... you need to have options to avoid the "bad variants" like the Spider 5K so grinding isn't a pain in the arse.

However, reintroducing the Centurion-9H would probably "break teh wangs". So, that's not going to happen. Also, I doubt there are that many variants to choose from in the lower light chassis. Then again, I'm not a TT guy, so I don't have a list to choose from to know or care.

my opinion lies the other way. I'd prefer to have one chassis for each model and buy "kits" to make the variants. the three mech mastery thing is artificial and annoying. I'd rather pay higher EXP for EFFs this more accurately reflects most variants as well. as few involve serious be-engineering.

Kits or no kits would you be behind more variation?

I agree avoiding bad variants or variants that you just don't like is my goal. I want this game to be awesome and playing crap variants that just don't work in real time is important to me.

I don't know if the 9AH would break the wang or not. The wang should have a hatchet, and if they follow the time line should get better weapons later this year. The 9 AH is static 2 balistics 3 missiles.

The centurion variants are perfect IMHO having the lasers in the chests allows the wang to equip a standard engine and fight until it loses it's cannon arm, then fight on as a torso with out need of ammo. The AH is totally ammo dependent and can lose all of its weapons before losing a std engine.

Any other opinions? Any thoughts on variants? Any PGI employees trolling the suggestion forums want to weigh in?
