With the analog turning hopefully coming out soon, I'd like to know if it would be possible to get joystick auto-centering as an option, or a way to do it in the user.cfg.

To be clear, what I would like to have is for example have pitch and torso twist in x and y axis of the joystick and turning in the twist movement of the joystick. That part sort of works, what is missing is that when I release the joystick, everything should reset to default, torso pointing to the dead center, perfectly aligned with the legs.

This is how I played MW2. The controls at the moment require way too large hand movements for small adjustments in aim for my tastes. While I might learn to live with that on really large and slow mechs, piloting lights feels if not impossible, at least so great a hindrance compared to keyboard and mouse that I can't really consider it an option any more than playing blindfolded and/or with the mouse in the wrong hand.

It's not a game breaker for me since keyboard + mouse control is good, but I bought a joystick for this game (like I did in the day for MW2) and it would be a bit of a shame if I couldn't actually use it.

it should auto center just go to calibrate and unless your stick is bad you should have no problem. They will next week be adding more to help the joystick. If I could only get the pitch from being backwards I would cry with joy. Yes it did work until two patches ago. through user. Cfg the joystick will be fully functional when they can get to it..

When I release my joystick, the movement stops and the torso remains pointing to whereever I last turned it to point to. I assume you think this is what I meant with auto-centering.

What I want the game to do when I release the joystick is to return to a straight forward view. So, the torso should never point up or down or right or left unless I'm at that moment turning the stick to that direction. If the game already does this, I don't know how to get it like that, and would greatly appreciate to know how to fix it.

If it's still unclear what I mean, I can draw pictures. :P

Inverting the pitch was easy by just adding cl_joystick_invert_pitch = 1 to user.cfg.

The best option I can give you would be to hotkey the "Center Torso to Legs" command onto your Joystick.

Or, if you are a decent Script-Warrior, you might be able to create a macro that executes that command when the Joystick is at center position.

Unfortunately, I don't think that will do anything with the pitch, which is a big part of the problem I'm having. :P

Thanks, though. Also, thank god for the training grounds, I didn't have to run like a headless turkey in real matches.

What you are talking about is absolute inputs vs relative. Not sure when PGI will implement this as an option Thrustmaster T16000 ($40), Cougar (>$150) or Warthog ($>350) can easily use this type of input owing to TARGET, their extremely comprehensive software for these 3 sticks.

I only use absolute inputs, but my stick does not automatically return to center. I made my own stick that moves in pitch/azimuth (just like the mech), uses absolute inputs and has no spring centering. Works. Like. A. Champ.
