Greetings Devs and my Fellow MechWarriors.

I was participating in a Conquest match the other day and saw something that I thought was interesting. A Spider was standing underneath the capture structure, with a seemingly endless rain of LRM's falling down on top of it, the capture point was soaking up all this damage.

Now I realize that this is a game, however, the ENTIRE point of Conquest maps is to gather resources, 750 of them, you do this via controlling these capture points. However, there is a tendency for Mechs to hide under/behind these point to avoid enemy fire.

These structures, look like rather fragile, lots of exposed moving parts, no armor, and they are of Strategic Value. I feel that they should not be impenetrable bastions of defense.

My suggestion would be to give these points an acceptable level of health which when depleted, would result in the destruction of the building, and some sort of penalty to the team that destroyed it, say -200 resources to their count, or something similar to punish them for blowing up this extractor.

Anyway, just my thoughts, take it for what they are.

Unfortunately you say the reason is due to the example you give, yet you also state that the penalty should be to the team who destroys it. This would just encourage light pilots to hide under the points to make the other team destroy them and so get penalties.

It's definitely an issue that they can be used as cover, but if you can destroy the buildings then you will have people who only want to play TDM that will just destroy the points so that no one can win. Unless going into negative points would cause your team to lose, then it might work.

They would need a lot more health then previously because Artillery and Air Strikes. The addition of them would make this type of mode to easy.

Make it destructible, don't give penalty, just disable resource extraction feature if destroyed. So either capture it or destroy. It would then introduce a tactics to destroy all nearby extractors and concentrate defence on one, which gives a chance of fast-pace light-on-light mechs encounter for distant capture points. And makes match-making faster on maps such as Alpine Peaks, if the team is well-coordinated.

People would then just destroy the extractors to force it into team deathmatch mode. Sounds pretty backwards to me.

What about stopping the game after all extractors are destroyed and calculate the points to see who wins?

So, turn one Game mode (conquest) into the other game mode (assault), thus reducing MWO to only one Game mode again?

Given that logic, gotta Vote NO.

Stalemate ensues when only 2 extractors survive. Yours and the enemies home base units. Once an extractor is destroyed, all points gained are erased right? Otherwise some very ugly shenanigans ensue...

Not necessarily. During the battle, there have been some captures, right? And one team did better than the other. So when all extractors are destroyed, one team has, say 350 resources, and the other has 370. Second wins in this case. You introduce an interesting concept here - after your resource count is greater than the opponents, you would want to destroy resource extraction, even your own, because it would trigger the win.

Considering the above, no, the resource gathered are kept to both teams (whatever they managed).
