Yup, that's crooked.
Get yourself a kickstand bro. :P

I run this, but lately I've had bad luck with the X-Fire in MWO being actually worse than running it single. Like... soul crushingly bad. Oh well, at least I still get 60fps.

Question to those with 1000+ Watt power supplies:

Do you really think you need that much power?

1500 watt psu? Really?
I bet your rig won't even need 750 watts, that would be 50% out what your psu is capable of. And at 50% load the psu is operating very inefficient too.

But that's just my thoughts, I enjoy having equipment at a reasonable price that serves its purpose efficiently.

I remember back when we thought 128k RAM was a flipping luxury.

And i run MWO on a stock Dell Precision m4800 laptop w/ discrete nvidia gpu. I get 45-60 fps in all scenarios.

Why is this notable?

...my boss paid for it!

Some of us do -- my video card alone puts out over 716 watts according to HardOCP: http://www.hardocp.c...12#.Vyb30zArKUk (this is at stock clocks).

Naturally, I've overclocked my video card, and my rig's power draw (w/overclocked Xeon CPU) is slightly over 200 watts. Given that Hawaii GPUs have serious power drain when overclocked, I am probably drawing at a bare minimum of ~920 watts and I'm personally certain (in my case) it was at, or even exceeding 1000w -- it's the reason why I moved from a 1000W 80+ Gold PSU to my current 1200w 80+ Platinum PSU (I have had instability issues in the past, which I was able to isolate down to lack of power).

Also, another thing to consider is that some of us hardcore computer enthusiasts buy good PSUs to begin with, so that we won't have to replace them over multiple builds (I know quite a few guys who have moved from Crossfire/SLI setups to single card [and back again], all while using the same PSU, over a period over 2-5 years).

So your blanket statement is a bit misleading -- sure, some of us are using more PSU than we need for our current video card(s). But who's to say what we were using when we originally got said PSU? Or just what kind of power the video card(s) we are using demands, anyway? The assumption you are making is far too broad to base a value judgment upon.

Okay,
I see your point there. But still see no point in having such a power hungry card in the first place (unless u can play MWO in 4k resolution and framerate constantly above 80 or so).
Whenever i was upgrading my videocard in the past years (mostly not the newest but the last generation) i was able to increase GFX-PWR (=Framerate) while decreasing power draw (wattage needed). But with this behaviour i seem to be the exception.

There may be some with PSUs bigger than needed (which is a real waste) and many with very power hungry cards or SLI/Crossfire setups.
Many years ago i was crazy enough to use a Dual-core AGP GFX-card (the last and fastest AGP-card available) to play Crysis on a really outdated but heavily overclocked rig (Asus CUSl2-C board with Pentium III). Waste of money, waste of time, etc. but fun anyway.
No i am fixing up my house (built by grandparents), waste of money, waste of time, maybe fun when i am finished, hence the more economical approach to computers

Nothing wrong with a "priority project" over monetary investment in a video game -- good luck w/the house-fixing! (I work in real estate so when I think of house-fixing, I usually think of "added value to home").

----------------------------------

As for your other possible questions:
I got my current video card because (all "currency amounts in USD"):

1) I was able to get a decent, brand-new, 42 inch, 4K@60hz AMVA TV (used as monitor) for $249 (and sold my aging 30" 2560x1600 IPS monitor for $225). Added DP-HDMI 4K@60hz adapter for $30 (needed for 4K@60hz for this particular video card). Net expenditure for 4K monitor upgrade? $54.

2) I sold my GTX 980 for around $330. Then bought my video card from Newegg for $600. It came with a nice mouse (which I sold for $85) and a $100 rebate (which I received in the mail 5 weeks after purchasing the card and filling out/sending out the rebate form). Net expenditure for 4K-ready card (which is also a MASSIVE performance boost over a lone GTX 980)? $85, cheaper than selling my GTX 980 and getting a GTX 980 Ti (which would have provided less performance).

3) Sold my 1000w PSU for $90 and bought my 1200w PSU for $130, in the process going from 80+ Gold to 80+ Platinum. Net expenditure? $40.

So, my total net expenditure for my "major, 4K upgrades" was $179. I'm quite happy with that, and MWO @ 4K for $179 (for me, anyway) over what I had before is a pretty good deal.

If you wish to know exactly what I have in my rig, check the page or two before my post here and you can easily find it. I buy many of my rig parts used, so I save a good bundle right there. Given that both Pascal/Polaris releases (from NVIDIA/AMD, respectively) this year are not going to be incredible increases over the past generation, I'm very glad that I purchased my card. I'll wait until Q1/Q2 of 2017 (at the earliest) to think about getting a new video card upgrade (Big Pascal/Vega should be quite promising).

In short, I'm all about getting the most out of your buck, with some high-performance wriggle room as needed. Posted Image

Sooooo, I got a buddy who got a PC in a trade and wanted to sell it to me as he doesnt game. He said I could have it cheap, just get it out of the bosses (his wife) sight. Hes never built computers or game so he hadnt a clue what the PC had parts wise, all he could tell me was Win10 Pro and 8GB ram. I drove over there and took a gander, asked how much. When he said $350 I thought he was pulling my leg. He wasnt. I got everything listed minus the monitors, headsets, and sound system. I get, depending on map of course, anywhere from 90 to 140 FPS in MWO and it never falls below 90FPS even in heavy combat. Playing other games it fares better, and so far has eaten and spat out anything I throw at it. Witcher 3, Battlefield 4, Metro 2033, Star Craft 2, Arma 3, Total War: Warhammer, it just eats it all up on Ultra settings.

If you dont want to click on link:
CPU: Core i5 4690 3.5GHZ
GPU: AMD R9 290 4GB
PSU: Corsair 750M 750watt 80+ Bronze Cert
Mobo: MSI MicroATX
Case: BitFenix Prodigy M Cobalt
CPU Cooling: Corsair H100i
Ram: 2x4GB Vengeance
HDDs: Samsung EVO 250GB HDD (OS), 1TB WD CB, 2x2TB External
Peripherals: LogiTech G510 KB and G602 Mouse, extra mouse Razer Hex

Pretty much this. Not sure if that Mobo model is correct, I know its only a MSI 2 ram slot MicroATX, that was in the $50 range.
