Before Making A New Thread

1. Use the Search Function
This is a big one. Many posters do not use search and post a redundant thread about a topic that is already being discussed. This causes other forum users a pretty big issue. It spreads out the information across multiple threads. Making it hard for users and devs alike to find the information that is being discussed.
Keeping it to a single thread makes the information relevant, easy to find, and keeps the line of discussion in one place. In addition it doesn't clutter up the lists of threads making it even easier to find. Don't be afraid of necro'ing a post as long as your information is on topic and relevant to the times. Before responding to the posts in the thread check the date as things might have changed in a recent patch.
2. Check Dev Posts and Patch Notes
This is another big one. I see threads pop up that complain about issues that are being addressed in a coming patch. For example, I saw a post just yesterday spring up saying that "Great Lasers are fine, what about ballistics?" Had this player actually read the dev notes, he would have known that State Rewind for Ballistic type weapons is in the works and coming soon. His thread was redundant and not needed, he could have answered his own question by checking a few stickied threads.
And you definitely do not want to open yourself up to ridicule by making a complaint or comment that was just fixed that Tuesday. Make sure your topic is relevant with the current changes.
3. Behave Yourselves
Remember you are a guest in PGI's house. These servers that host these forums are owned/leased by PGI which makes you effectively a guest. Conduct yourselves accordingly. Don't flame other posters, don't insult each other or PGI. I see too many people make "They suck" threads and complain about getting their threads locked, calling it censorship.
There's rules on these forums for a reason, they are there to keep the forum board clean and tidy so that relevant information can be found easily and quickly. And it all simply comes down to respect for your fellow players. We're not here to hear rants. We're here to gather information and discuss MWO in a civil manner. If you need an outlet for your frustration, use Twitter or Facebook.
This isn't to say you shouldn't discuss your dislikes for some aspect of MWO. But if you're going to do that, you need to do it in a civilized manner. There are many things that I do not like about MWO, but you'll never see me post a thread that insults the developers for it. Constructive feedback is the best way to get results.
Basically don't clutter the forums. And show respect for the Devs/Staff as well as your fellow players.

Until they kill 12 or 13 of the 14 pinned threads that currently exist, what you're proposing could not be more pointless.

1. OK, but since a great many people do not read all the previous posts in an existing thread you also have problems with getting the best possible discussion.
2. OK
3. I think the far better term here is "customer" or potential customer, not guests.

Just an FYI, I've been tossed out of a Walmart for alot less then how some people conduct themselves here.

Just an FYI, anyone who can manage to get thrown out of a Wal-Mart needs the sign Bill Engvall refers to whenever he says "Here's your sign."

I'm not taking advice from anyone who managed to get themselves thrown out of a shop, on the basis that people who act like ***** in public have no right to advise me on how to conduct myself on the internet.
The important thing here though, is that the OP is getting attention. So it's work here is done.

So you're advocating for people on the forums to act WORSE here then that? How does that make sense?
By the way, you might want to look before you shoot. You don't know the circumstance to which I was referring to. The point of the matter is if the ones in the store don't like what you say or do, they can have you leave, customer or not. But yet we have social misfits crying foul of censorship when they get moderated.
Difference between them and myself is I don't cry and moan about it. I shrug and move on.

Getting thrown out of Walmart is nothing. Getting thrown out of Apple Bees is boss. Like Ricky Bobby senior. This thread by the way, needs to be thrown out of General. Why hasn't it been jettisoned yet?
