Lurms On A Brawler Yes/no?

Obviously I'm giving up some damage potential in a brawl so I'm trying to decide if the exta flexibility is worth it. Has anyone else tried this/have thoughts? I'm running my cent tonight with 2 srm6, 2 ML, 1 LRM10 and it doesn't stink but I'm not sure that it is as good as just having 3 SRM6.

A single 10 or 15 won't do much because AMS will kill 5 missles per second.

I'm currently running a 2xLRM15, ERPPC, 2ML Catapult with 300XL and the LRMs get a lot of use in the 180-250 range.
I'd try to go with at least 15 tubes and don't use it much at the longer ranges. Use it in 500-200m as you are closing. Also, you should be able to maneuver very well and still maintain lock.

i don't know about being so definate about the numbers, I've fired my a solo lrm 15 at a mech with ams before and it only wiped out 2-3 missles

I've toyed with the idea of using 1 SRM6 and 1 LRM10 (instead of either of my 4SP builds that have 2 SRM6 or 2 LRM10), but I haven't really found a setup I like using a split like that yet. Then again, space is extremely limited on my 4SP as I use both FF and endo-steel.

the 2 lrm10 hunchie is a good build, it can brawl well (4 meds) it can help long range (lrm 10s) and you can tag people when you're brawling with them (pugs tend to jump on those tag marks like piranas)

Got the same build
Except I have a STD255 engine and have lost a bit of armour for the extra LRM ammo.
Runs at 90 odd with speed tweak and is just a fun mech to play. Much prefer the LRMs to SRMs I had on it.

Yesterday I saw a Catapult with 3 SRMs and 3 LRMs and after following his playing it was plain obvious he didnt know if he should take distance to enemy or hug him, so this was pretty much the same symptom which I had.
Mix of close and long range weapons is a tricky one (especially in meds), jack of all trades but master of none...

I'm not going to dissuade you from taking a balanced mech. Often LRMs come in handy when you are either out of range or out of visual contact with the enemy. Even an LRM5 wouldn't go amiss imo. Could be a difference maker in a light battle.

use the LRM moving to engage, then the ER Large. once engaged, the srm6 and if equipped, the 4xMed. not too bad if I watch my distance from the opposing force

A brawler catapult. You, sir, are a brave man.

I have the same mech only without the pretty founder nose on it (stupid snuby nose) but I'm running twin A-LRM15s 3 meds and a tag, it works pretty well if I can keep the enemies at about 200 meters.

I'm grinding up my first Heavy at the moment, a -C1 with two ArtLRM20s, 4MLAS, typically I'll aim to engage direct fire from about 700 meters on the approach, optimal fighting distance is around 250-350m. Only suffered for the lack of personal TAG once, but it's obviously easy to swap it out for an MLAS.

The benefit of using LRMs on a brawler would be to allow yourself to attack when you don't have a line of sight, but only slow ones would have an issue getting into position. Meanwhile, slower brawlers would also have the tonnage to spare.

An LRM 10 on a brawler could work. It would give you some long range ability, but not make you a 'threat'. You would be better having a ER Large Laser though I would think. You have a reach weapon BUT one that still can be used to brawl.

The bonus is you can use the LRMs to pin a straggler down and keep them occupied with looking for cover as you close in. The payoff is you're down one weapon once you're within 240m.
It also gives you something to do while you're waiting for the brawls to start.
