I don't know if it's true hacks, packet drops/tweaking, or aim bots but I was in a couple 8 man drops tonight and I witnessed some things I have never seen before and I have nearly 4000 drops under my belt...

They are either dropping or modifying packets. They will stand still and look like they are "lag walking" and then all of a sudden BOOM .... you take massive damage. It was not your typical lag.

I won't name names here but we need to keep this discussion alive. Hacking is happening and PGI please take quick action to bring it to a stop.

Thanks.

Send info to support@mwomercs.com if you suspect foul play.

Can't say that I've ever seen that behaviour. Are you sure it's "hacking"? What was your ping & network state at the time? Could that have contributed?

I'm not saying that hacking never happens but I don't think it happens anywhere near as much as people think it does.

discussion here is of no benefit, you'll either spread the problem as people go looking for how to do it or create paranoia and unfounded accusations which will bog down admin time that could be used better for dealing with genuine hackers . use the email above, name the offenders in the email with any evidence and let them sort it out.

I was not the only person in the group it happened to. Geographically we are from all over the map so I don't think it was a local issue.

I guess it could have been server lag but it would only happen to one mech? Same guy in more than one drop .... no visual .. boom ... killed by XYZ.

Thanks.

More sounds like the problem I had a couple of weeks ago when my isp or the route to the game from Europe threw a fit. Suddenly my ping was jumping to an insane 6-700 from its normal about 119. Cleared up so wasn't too bothered.

This.

Happened to me a couple of days ago, massive lag then boom massive damage. Never seen this "lag walking" in all this time on MWO, think of it never seen this since the 90's on dialup modem. It was so retro. Was wondering wtf happened and a couple of other team members saw and experienced it right then too. Again, we were from all geographic locations and can't be local connectivity issues. Been bugging me since, until I saw your post.

Put that way, that sounds suspicious as hell. Definitely report it to PGI & see what they can come up with.

Eh, not trying to start unfounded rumors. I don't come here every week and post this stuff.

It happened. It was weird. It's not something that needs to be swept under the rug. This isn't a national security issue .. it's a game.

nopt evryone videos every game they play not to mention fraps (or whatever capture program you use) tend to make the game run slower, also there was no namming and as such no name and shame, or did you not read the post at all?

I think it might just be a network issue on PGI's end. I had this happen to me a few days ago on Frozen City. Out of nowhere everyone starts lagwalking. My teammates on teamspeak were uneffected, but the game was essentially frozen in time for me. A minute or so later I take random damage and everything skips forward to present. Then the game continued normally.

Unless you want more of it happening, (apart form going to the mods) yeah it does.

... um, no. You bring it out into the open and talk about it so it can't be ignored. PGI needs to continue and/or renew its focus on the security of the game as they are focused on microtransactions, maps, and weapon balance.

People who are gonna cheat are gonna cheat.

You do know how server authorative games work right ?

Also you do know that the movement is done by the server as well right ?

So, knowing this, you should know, that dropping packets on purpose won't do anything for you. The server will continue moving you mech where it "was" going according to the server until you respond. If you don't respond in time , generally games will kick you from the server as you are essentially "disconnected".

Because of this, you should be able to fire on them like normal, and when they do finally recieve / send another packet they will cop all the dmg you put into them in 1 hit....pretty much like what you said YOU experienced. (tons of dmg from nowhere in 1 second etc)

So are you sure you didnt just drop packets yourself ?

The so called hacking you are talking about is pretty much impossible to do. At least, the way you explain it.

Changing packets / dropping packets does not work.

I've had this happen a lot, but I'm pretty sure is my crappy ISP. I've seen it go for over 2 minutes (not usually that long, but it's happened), where I can walk around and shoot, but everyone else is just walking in place, then I'll suddenly be somewhere else with damage and usually dead.
