Hi guys, me again.
I saved up enough to buy basically any mech I want. I was thinking about buying an Atlas, but i'm not too sure.
I currently have a Hunchback-4P and ilya muromets.
If I should buy an Atlas, which would you recommend? Or perhaps another mech altogether? I'm new to this game, so any advice is appreciated.

What Atlas Should I Buy? (Or If)

I like my Stalker-5M much more than my Atlas-D. I hate that a founder's mech collects dust but I barely ever use it.
Everyone is going to say "If you get an Atlas the DDC is the only choice" but that's not really true. The Atlas D is probably my favorite hardpoint layout. They are all pretty much the same except for the RS that has two energy hardpoints in each arm allowing for several different combos of heavy energy weapons.
For what it's worth, my Stalker-5M:
(3) Large Pulse Lasers
(2) Medium Lasers
(2) SRM6s
(20) DHS
You should brawl in a Stalker, but I can't argue with the results on this guy.
Edit: However, I second what MOrpheu5 said below. Hunchbacks and Cataphracts are some of my favorite mechs. If you can I'd grab 2 of one of those and elite them. My Hunchback-4G and Cataphract-1X are two of my most used mechs.

To be honest I don't think it matters that much; its more about configuring your Atlas for the role that you want to use it for. Have a look at this thread: http://mwomercs.com/...-sniper-config/ its one that I started a few days back. I really thought I was going to get a lot of negative feedback "Use an Atlas as a Sniper? What!" but no, the guys and gals out there were really constructive and I found a lot more support than I was expecting.
Start by looking at what you enjoy doing; chances are that unless you like running really fast or flying around on jets, the Atlas can be configured for you. Its main advantage is Armour; that's not to say that you should walk into a group of enemy Cataphracts and expect to take them all out before they get you, it just means you have more than most.
The next thing to consider is your individual style; are you a Team Player or a Lone Wolf / Mercenary? The Atlas can do both very effectively; personally I prefer to support the Lance where possible, but also like to capture the odd base on my own. Whatever style you go for will dictate things like running with ECM or Beagle Active; it will also dictate your primary weapons Long range or Ultra close range. Again check out the link above to see some really good advice if you decide to go Sniper.
Lastly, never venture out onto the battlefield without an AMS, it's false economy if you go with the Atlas. If I had to name an alternative it would be the Annihilator, not enough armour for me, but configure it with 3 PPC's two linked and one off your key 2 on the keyboard and you will have a big presence on the battlefield.

DDC> RS/D>K
IMO, DDC is only at the top because of ECM.
RS is the best for sniping because the energy points are all in the arms.
D has the energy points on the CT, so if you like having medium lasers to complement ballistics and missiles it is great.
K has dual AMS, and is easily the weakest of the 4.

^To summarize it: DDC = if you want to brawl, RS = if you want to snipe!

I would suggest the Founder Atlas AS7 DF if one of the bests !! only lacks ECM. But A DDC with 2 ER PPC's a Gauss and 3 SRM6 launchers does ok !!

You may not like the Atlas. I've got a DDC and an RS, but I rarely play them. Not sure why, but I like my Stalkers and Awesomes better. The stalker is arguably the best brawler and best sniper in the game. Plus the stalker has a great hard point layout, so it's quite versatile.

Depends on what you want. Atlases are huge walls that attract a lot of attention and have a lot of fire thrown their way. Mastering out a mech is a good idea and quite frankly since you know how the Hunchie and the Ilya handle, I'd suggest mastering one of those two first.
