Tell us what you think of the new Consumable Modules (Cool Shot 6/9/18)

Quote

New Consumables Modules

- General Notes:

- Consumable modules cannot be sold back to the store.
- Cool Shot is activated by pressing Delete (when a cool shot module is equipped).
- If more than one type of cool shot module is equipped, the first press of Delete will activate the Cool Shot 6.
- The second press will activate Cool Shot 9 or Cool Shot 9 by 9 or Cool Shot 18 (whichever is equipped).
- If the player shuts down while coolant flushing, the flush pauses and any remaining flush automatically resumes after powering up.
- If a consumable module is not used during a match, it is not consumed and remains on the BattleMech

- Cool Shot 6

- Only one of these can be equipped on a BattleMech at a time.
- Consumed upon use.
- Costs 10,000 CBills.
- When used, it removes 6 heat per second, for 1 second, from your BattleMech(in addition to the standard heat loss from your heat sinks).
- This is equivalent to the cooling provided by 60 single heat sinks.

- Cool Shot 9

- Only one of these can be equipped on a BattleMech at a time.
- Cannot be equipped on a BattleMech that has a Cool Shot 18 equipped.
- Consumed upon use.
- Costs 40,000 CBills.
- When used, it removes 9 heat per second, for 1 second, from your BattleMech(in addition to the standard heat loss from your heat sinks).
- This is equivalent to the cooling provided by 90 single heat sinks.

- Cool Shot 18

- Only one of these can be equipped on a BattleMech at a time.
- Cannot be equipped on a BattleMech that has a Cool Shot 9 equipped.
- Consumed upon use.
- Costs 15 MC.
- When used, it removes 18 heat per second, for 1 second, from your BattleMech(in addition to the standard heat loss from your heat sinks).
- This is equivalent to the cooling provided by 180 single heat sinks.

New Modules

- Cool Boost

- Costs 15,000 GXP.
- When bought, automatically increases the cooling provided by every cool shot by 20%.
- Does not need to be equipped to a BattleMech.

- Cool Shot 9 by 9

- Costs 15,000 GXP.
- When bought, automatically upgrades all Cool Shot 9 modules into Cool Shot 9 by 9 modules.
- Cool Shot 9 by 9 modules removed 18 heat per second for 1 second.
- All other stats/costs/restrictions are the same as Cool Shot 9.

I'm glad pay to win concerns were resolved by adding the ability to earn the 9x9, which it appears has the same effect as the cheaply buyable 18s.

Don't mind the CB pricing of the others. Seems fair. One shot properly keeps this a nice once per game "emergency blow" which I'm okay with. Now if only you'd give 'em a chance to kaboom like the BT coolant pods, that might make things amusing

Obviously not able to offer feedback yet, but will we be able to test consumables in the Testing Ground without, you know, *consuming* them?

The 9x9 coolant, if it works the same as an 18 coolant, alieviates all my fears about P2W. Thanks PGI! 15,000 GXP seems like a fair amount of time invested, but at least we have the option to grind for it.

Again... back to basic math. The main issue with the "Cool Shot 9" is that the non-upgraded version literally costs 4 times as much as the Cool Shot 6 module. If you're not willing to budge on the cost (which the clearly labeled behavior), you need to adjust the Cool Shot 9 module to "Cool Shot 12". Without the upgrade, you are literally half as effective. The cost at this point in time does not match with the benefits for the non-upgraded version.

Hey. Still P2W and you decided to give it a terrible name to boot.

15000 GXP is not a reasonable amount. It's months of playing for anyone who has a life outside of MWO.

Months of playtime to unlock equipment that paying players don't have to do any work for. Paying to speed up progression is pay-to-win if progression offers empirically better equipment. It's even worse when a non-paying player cannot unlock the same equipment in a reasonable amount of time, if they ever would in the lifetime of the game (which if this kind of thing keeps up, is not going to be long).

You should be ashamed of yourselves. If you're going to include pay-to-win, at least don't lie and promise you won't.

I have only one though for now - "Cool Shot" is awful, awful name for, like, anything in Mechwarrior game. It sounds like sth taken straight from 80s advertisment of imported discount priced Red Bull ripoff in eastern Moldova.

If you think about it, the entire Battletech universe is P2W. The mech pilot who can afford the best parts for his mech, puts in a ton of effort and cbills usually wins out for his or her house, or merc group. Its just like with racing cars as well, if your race team cant afford to have good parts or the best it sucks but you might just end up losing to the other teams that can. As long as I get to keep playing the game for free and buying a few MC here and there for mechbays I am all good, I will reserve any judgement for the cool shots after I have had some time to see how they truly impact the game. I was not happy with ECM when it first came out, but now for me its just a part of the challenge of playing the game and that keeps it from getting boring for me.

Cool Boost "Does not need to be equipped to a BattleMech."

But the Cool Shot 9 by 9 does? So isn't this the exact same thing that many were protesting against earlier? When you pay real money for Cool Shot 18, you only need to use 1 module slot. But using free in-game credits Cool Shot 9 requires another module slot if you want it to be as effective. So nothing has changed, still pay to win?

Not that I personally care, since flushing 21.6 heat at best (with Cool Boost) isn't really earth shattering. I'd rather use some module in those slots.

Many of the other modules are also 15k GXP, and your not hearing people complaining about them being P2W, even though a few hundred MC will buy those for you easily with GXP conversions. This is no different from offering another high priced module, except its cheaper to MC users than the other modules.

But you still have to play to earn that XP to convert. You don't have to do anything to earn these consumables; it's just pay and go.

It's still P2W; just less obvious, and less severe. To be honest, since I started playing MWO, it's been pretty obvious it was already P2W in some ways, but even if I put up with what's already established, doesn't mean I'm happy about more P2W being added.

Silly way to cash in IMO. The tabletop game was far from perfect, I just don't see adding "consumables" to war machines. Especially when it does not fit with the original game. I would rather have purchased the game and be without the P2W stuff. I'll have to see what actual effect this has on gameplay but as a BT purist, this really burns me.

"Cool Shot", as others already stated, is an incredibly bad name. You probably tried to sound "kewl" to the kids, but you just sound ridiculous and awkward.

You took a bad idea, which modules are in my opinion (no mech buff should go without a cost along the lines of weight, heat, crit lots or risk), and took a dump on top of it, making it an even worse idea by adding actual consumables to it.

Where are Cool Boost and Cool Shot 9x9? I can't seem to see them

Oh, wait, found them in pilot trees.

Does this mean that these modules do not have to be purchased after being unlocked? I thought Cool Boost was going to take up a modules slot.

Not complaining! I actually like this new addition. I better go before all the consumable haters get here :S

Earning 15k EXP to convert is like nothing... its like half an elite level. Earning GXP, however, is a pain in the ***. Many of us who have been playing for a while have several mechs at master level sitting on 100k+ exp.

Still a terrible idea from a fundamental game-play perspective. Really wish you guys had thought of something else to sell. I'm not against consumables, per se, but this "coolant flush" nonsense is weak sauce. :)

Yeah, and I don't like it. But it was in the game before I started, and I don't expect it to be removed. However, I certainly don't like them adding more pay-to-win things into the game. If I could, I'd get them to remove all of the pay-to-win parts of the game, or if not possible, include them as a factor in matchmaking so that they are no longer actually pay-to-win.

But I can't. I don't wield the power to keep PGI from making their game more P2W, which is a shame. I did want this game to be good, and hell, I wanted to give PGI my money, but I can't justify giving them money when every patch makes the game less fun.

very much this^

as I stated before in the other feedback topic the MC buyable coolant flush is straight up pay2win
the 15K GXP to unlock the upgrade is an awful long time

something I don't understand regarding 9by9 unlock, it's done per class (l/m/h/a) or per mech chassis (Atlas/Awesome and so on) ??

This is a completely Pay to Win add on / enhancement only made possible because HEAT MANAGEMENT IS BROKEN in this game.

How you ask ?

Because we pay 1.5 million cbills to equip Double Heatsinks, but in the MWO universe only Double Heatsinks internal to the Engine are truly double as in x2 heat dissapation. External heatsinks are only worth x1.4 Single Heatsinks. This is not true to Table Top rules deliberately to keep pilots from boating energy weapons and being able to apha strike on every weapon recycle. But that is the exact reason Double Heatsinks were even added to the game rules, to INCREASE RATE OF FIRE FOR ENERGY WEAPONS. But when PGI decided to go from table top to arcade game and triple the fire rate of energy weapons and double the armor on mechs, they conveniently forgot to double or triple the heat dissapation !!!

So what is the PGI answer to deliberately nerfing external Double Heatsinks in MWO ?

Let's add a "Pay To Win" consumable item and module to make up for our "Energy Weapon" nerfing. 15000 GXP takes forever to earn, unless you just buy it with MC.

Garbage programming from a dev team that can't even fix the common bugs in the game like battlemap display glitches, map texture glitches, mechs stuck in maps, crappy looking night vision, thermal vision and advanced zoom vision. Don't even get me started on overpowered ECM and all the "Hero" mechs with the best Hardpoint locations . . .

You actually want people to pay real money to play this? Seriously ???

Might as well leave this game in Open Beta forever . . . .
