The only Jagermech that isn't useless with an XL is one sporting dual AC/20. The XL is way too big of a liability with any other build, since the damage isn't front loaded like it is with two AC/20's. This is my initial impression as Jagers are very easily taken down.

The Jager only excels when it isn't focused.

So it's sort of analogous to one of those XL Cataphracts? Guess that makes sense. Have you had any luck at long range?

I have died from head shots maybe 20% of the time. Way to much. sometimes almost no torso damage at all. other then that, the mech is different. will it be fun in the long run? not sure yet, but i have all 3 and am having some fun.

people aim center of mass generally, which is exactly where your head hit box is.

stay frosty my friends.

2x Ac20
2x ML
7tons of ammo
runs better and faster then the AC20 K2, and this build works on any of the jagers.

Jagers seem to be a little pathetic, I've been tearing them apart with my X-5. They seem to be made of paper and fire BBs.

Got a Jag-S model with some C-bills I had. Tried testing it and overheats like a ****... Haven't dared try it in a fight yet. Does this thing get better or did I just blow a ton of $$. May as well move back to the Cat C1

I am having a good time with this mech. I am running 2 AC/20s 2 MLs and a XL. I have the armor beefed up. I am doing well with this mech but have been dying the majority of time by cockpit being destroyed and not from using an XL. I have even got head shotted by a streak with my back turned to the commando firing them. But on the other side of the coin my AC/20s been taking legs off of lights no problem.

Yeah - most people run 6 ammo in the AC/20 catapult, but depending on your build you might want to fit more. The real question is where to put it (other than the legs haha.)

Ok, after purchasing the DD version, and tried out alot of variations, my veredict is this:

ITS A FAIL MECH!!!!!

The 4 AC2 / 2 ML its fun! But not enough DPS to deal with enemy mechs. And you need to be far away, so it can work as a sniper, until you get a light next to you... but thats not your main problem, its a poor brawler, no arm movement, slow torso turning. So if a medium or a heavy gets near you, you're dead. Dont get shot by LRMs, they tend to hit your cockpit, actualy, everything tends to hit your cockpit... the worst part is when your cockpit gets destroyed when you get hit in your back!!!

Tried the 6 MG and 2 LPL, and a XL 315. A brawler version, lots of critics. Used the LPL to get the armor down, then the 6 MG do the work, very nicelly. Its fun!! Machine Guns for the win!!! But... the mechs suffers from the same problem... poor manuver, no arm movement, cant keep up with other mechs except the assaults... same problems with the hitboxes, mainly the cockpit

Also tried 2 AC10, 2 ML and 4 MG. A bit more firepower, you still get the critics from the MG, but again... easy to get destroyed...

Tried also the 2 UAC5, 2 ML and 2 AC2. Good fighter at a long range. It can put the PPC lovers to a corner LOL, but as soon you get hit by PPCs, guess where? Yep... right in the cockpit...

Veredict: ITs a fun mech to play, specially the 6 MG version LOL, but overall, its a fail mech. For a 65 Ton mech, get the catapult, or better, get a Cataphract... hell, even the Dragon can beat the Jagger anytime. In my opinion its the worst heavy mech available, possibly from all classes...

PS- it has room for improvment, specially to be a sniper, as soon the Devs deal with the hitboxes, mainly the cockpit and torsos

Confirmed that the head can be hit from behind. Head hit box is the size of the center torso. Overall, seems to have very little armor and is killed faster than a catapult. LRM's can leg it in one volley.

As i said in my post, played with it and it feels like a fail... again, it has room for improvment

I love to pilot the mech... however I perform very very poorly with it  I'll give it a little more time before i give up on it... but not too much, I don't mind not doing well, but I hate to let down the team.

I've been using a 2x er PPC, 6 MG, full armor, 71 kph build of the DD and have had surprisingly good results with it.

interesting thing about MGs, if there is any ammo on an enemy mech, those 6 mgs WILL find it and WILL crit it due to their damage bonus vs equipment. Most other weapons are liable to destroy a location before critting the ammo, not MGs. MGs will pop that ammo.

I've had very good luck aiming for the legs of ammo using mechs, since that's where everyone packs it most of the time. The resulting ammo explosion is usually strong enough to either kill the mech or blow half of it off, leaving it easy pickings.

additionally i just kind of hang around my allies, wait for a target to have their armor stripped from somewhere, and then swoop in to trigger all them delicious crits.

I am starting to think the Devs play a completly different game.

I like the one with missile hard points, 4 srm6+ art 2 LL, decent firepower and brings something a bit different to the table than other mechs can.

I've had a ton of fun in the S, default build.

2xAC2s for sniping (I must say, as a heavy weapons purist, these feel great). I am shocked at how quickly PPC/LRM boats will back down off of a ridge from a moment or two of sustained fire.

2xAC5s for medium range brawling. Works best if you hold back behind the Assaults and plink.

2xMedium lasers for when you inevitably get your arms sheared off.

Seriously though, 4xautocannons alphastriking for several seconds FEELS awesome, and the arms are at shoulder level, so it's much easier to shoot over objects other mechs can't (made an Atlas pilot rage on River City. He was in the water, and I was on the ledge, plinking at his head. He couldn't raise his arms high enough shoot back).

Can't wait to try out this or the DD with Quad-UAC5s.

Most time get killed by headshots very very fast.
:)

The Jagermech is a nice machine, but useless with this glass cockpit.
