So, with throttle decay OFF, whenever I open the chat window, my mech hits the brakes and puts the throttle to zero. It's like the mechwarrior himself is actually having to move his hands off the controls so he can type on his little bluetooth keyboard on his lap or something. HAI GUYZ ATLAS IN DELTA NINER HALP!

Horrendously irritating.

Same issue. Also happens when I pull up the map. I don't remember the map causing this before.

For further information, this is happening on every mech I've tried so far (all Cataphract and Atlas variants) so I don't think it's mech specific. Also happens in windowed mode or full screen. Toggling throttle decay on, then back off doesn't seem to resolve it.

It's because of decay throttle is default on now.
Either turn it off in options, or use numpad to set a speed.

First line of the post. Couldn't have been more clear.

As an addendum to this issue, chat window is also functioning differently. Before, I could hold backspace to clear out any text, as is normal for pretty much anything. Now, I have to press backspace once to delete each character. Holding has no effect.

Yet more info: I tried resetting all the settings to default, restarting the client, then reconfiguring my options and still have the same issue. The only settings I change are the graphics settings and turning off throttle decay/arm lock. No resolution yet.

I'm going to try remapping the chat and/or brake keys to see if that has any effect. I doubt it will. --Tested and yep, no change.

Been through enough crap with this at this point I'm making a bug post on it.

This has been an issue for a few patches now, it's in the "known issues" section with a sticky and a poll. They just haven't fixed it, for some reason.

There needs to be a key to escape out of chat too. It's annoying to accidentally hit the chat button while moving and be left with the option of tapping backspace as fast as you can or shouting "wdddddddddddddddddd" to the world.

edit vvvv Thanks, that's a workable solution. Not sure why I didn't try that before.

Press escape 2 times (one time for the black screen with the options and a second time to get back in match) quickly and you will be out of chat fast.

Sorry, really should have caught that you'd already turned it off.

So then what is the answer because this exact issue is affecting me, do I need to reinstall?

The not being able to hold backspace is a known issue(workaround shift-home delete), however having the throttle decay turned off has never stopped my mech. The only time I experience this issue is when I had it turned on. I have not been able to reproduce it, if you could get a video showing that the throttle decay is turned off and the issue occurs I could investigate further.

Cheers

Alright, so this is a tricky one...

I was affected by this all yesterday and found no solution to fix the mech stopping when either typing or looking at map (with throttle decay turned off), including client restarts, toggling throttle decay on/off both ingame/main menu, entering and exiting ingame/client leaving setting toggeled on/off before (figuring it might be a "state" issue that was not self correcting because of how the system checks these things)

Without find a solution I completely turned my computer off last night, something I hardly ever do, when I started fresh 8h later the problem had disappeared game was behaving normally and the mech continued to move while typing or in map.

Knowing that I was not insane and refusing be "that guy" who says... "oops problem solved itself as soon as I called", I started doing some testing.

After running a full game with no problems, I switched throttle on (ingame) then off (immediately). BINGO! problem is back. Here is fraps

Video: http://youtu.be/_yEw6h4SxSg

The problem then stayed consistent through a hard restart and additional client restarts.

After switching the throttle decay off in Main menu (not ingame) then doing a client restart the problem was gone, but after triggering the bug again and doing additional testing that fix has yet to work again...

Soo... OH NOOOO!!! I have screwed myself in the name of science!

Anyway that is where I am now, I have found no reliable way to fix it but a 100% reliable way to trigger it. (for my computer anyway, since I assume its some sort of "state" issue with something on my client)

Additional:
When the bug is active (aka throttle decay off) if I exit typing or exit the map, my set throttle (not actual speed) will immediately be set to MAX regardless of what my initially set throttle was before typing or checking the map. (uninformed guess: the bug has to do with how the game checks throttle decay status during these actions and that somehow it is getting out of sync so that it assumes throttle decay is ON during those actions, but realizes it is off during the rest of the time and defaults to MAX throttle)

System Specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate (SP1)
16 Gigs DDR3 RAM
GeForce GTX 670
Intel i5-3570K CPU (OC)

Having the same issue. I've turned OFF throttle decay, and whenever i use chat or open the map, mech comes to a halt. All maps, all mechs.

Yet, I have two friends how also turned theirs off, and they don't have the problem?

Just wanted to add that I am also getting this behavior. Will try the hard restart right after this post.

No change....still very bugged for me. Wouldn't have minded them adding a feature but breaking another part of the game to do it? Sigh....losing faith in this game.

This has been reported for months in the context of using the
cl_joystick_throttle_range = 0
user.cfg change to allow a two-way (forward/reverse) throttle.

Apparently this bug now impacts more people with the control input changes in this patch.

So does adding this line fix the issue?
