Is it intended? Or is it a bug? If this is happening to you, place your votes and tell us your stories.

I have had it happen to me as well, and some other topics around suggest it is a common occurance.



Seems to be most noticable if your carrying a guass rifle which explodes from taking little damage... or if your ammo gets hits and boom! From only a minor hit that normally would only just scratch your armor.

I lost an AC20 on my phract yesterday, still had armor after the shot destroyed the weapon

You are right, and actually a video would be the best proof. Screen shots would be useless in proving this...

I dont know how to make and post videos, but it would definitely require a controlled enviroment to reproduce this bug, unless someone recording their games got lucky.

Its mostly a game bug that's attached to 2 high dmg. One being the Gauss Rifle the other SRM many times I been hit once with a Gauss with full armor and lost a weapon or 2. Every now and then when I hit with a SRM I hear Critical Hit yet no systems will go out on the targeted mech.

Maybe it *was* fixed before, but a recent patch seems to have brought it back

I know it has happened many times, especially in my CTF-2X, where I lose my AC/20 but still have yellow armor on my Right Torso. Many times.

I know it has happened on other mechs, too, but for some reason I notice it in particular on my CTF-2X.

EDIT* Now that I think about it, I probably really haven't played my Cataphracts in 3+ weeks, so maybe it has been addressed in a recent patch.

I have been playing a lot of games recently where the enemy would either ignore my armor or somehow hit the opposite side of my mech (seems to be the latter). Say I am playing with destroyed front armor. I will turn directly away from them so they can hit the back armor while my teammates pummel them, however all too often I somehow still get hit on the broken side. I just left a match fighting against a cicada with all small lasers. My back armor was destroyed so I just fought him head on. His small laser shot got me when he was directly in front of me. I wasn't staring at the mech status box the entire fight, but I'm pretty sure my front armor didn't even flash.

Could be you destroyed a heatsink which wouldn't show on the target info....just a thought

Happened a few times, but still I can't be sure if the paperdoll didn't properly updated or what. I've experienced gauss blowing with still armor both in front and rear of the side torso, but this happened probably more than 2 months ago.

Read the thread on "crits and you".

Weapons like PPC/Gauss/AC10/AC20 that deal more than 10 damage (in an instant) have a chance to dish damage to your internal crits as if it were exposed.

This is normal behavior. You can lose weapons this way (like having a Gauss Rifle solely in the arm, being shot off by another Gauss Rifle).

This is why learning to use other stuff to protect your internals, like DHS or Gauss Rifle ammo is very important.

The problem that you're experiencing, that we're all experiencing, is two fold:

• Some of the structure on your mech (ie, the sensor buds on top) may, depending on the mech, be painted and therefor attached to the rear of your mech. If you're shot with missiles, even from the front, the splash can hit that buds and put damage on your rear. Pre-change, it wasn't uncommon for me to lose all of the armor on the back of my mech even though I took all the missile salvos from the front.
  
• Lag sometimes doesn't actually show the damage done to the mech. I can't tell you how many times that I've had my cockpit shake due to an AC hit only to see my mech fully grey. In Funkadelic's pic, you can see the extrenal armor on the rear CT (see #1 above) completely gone but you don't see any damage really registered.

Most of what we're seeing is just Beta bugs at work. I'm not sure that through armor crits actually happen, regardless of what Deathlike has said (it could be correct). But I know that there are a lot of times where you don't think that you've taken damage and you have.
