This matchmaking system.

The end.

Just came out of a game where we had a single assault mech on our team. A Stalker.

The enemy had three, THREE Atlas DDC's with ECM.

Who in their right MIND pushed through this system and called it balanced?

Wanna guess which team won overwhelmingly?

  • ECM is a horribly broken mess
  • Match Maker needs to include mech weight class in it's decision making

I had a C4 SRM build. Even after taking out two of the DDC's, the third one killed me, and we didn't have the firepower to take down the rest of their team, and we still all died while they lost only four mechs. There had to be two hundred tons worth of difference in the weight loadouts. I don't care what the pug team is like, matchmaking this bad needs to be thrown out the f-ing window and built back from scratch.

Ordinarily, elegance in simplicity tends to result in excellent emergent end-results, which in MWO, applies to many aspects, from 'Mech chassis design to weapon balancing.

However, the devs need to keep in mind that the matchmaking system is one thing where this does not apply. It needs to be necessarily complex (perhaps very much so) to achieve working results.

I'm confident that they're aware of this, and we'll see lots of changes as we move along, but as it's such a massive part of the experience, plus this is a F2P microtransaction-based game where player retention is critical, this is something that should come sooner better than later!

Sir; But if you'd waited for half an hour, or not been put in a drop at all, the thread would be the same for different reasons. They do the best they can with what they have. I dropped in a PUG before today's patch and though no "disconnects" or "AFK" occurred, we played two down. We won. It was one of the best MWO experiences I have ever had, and I'm glad I didn't miss it because the ELO made me wait for two more players. Are all games sonly entertaining when both sides are equally matched? Is the challenge the same when all is equal? Do you REALLY want that? It's still a BETA, please be patient.

Hey, I managed to strafe and destroy two DDC's in my C4, using building for cover, chain firing SRM's at them. I was pretty damn happy with that. But when the THIRD one managed to wear me down and kill me, and our one stalker had already died to them, I realised that the odds were so far stacked against my team from the beginning that managing to win would be a miracle anyway.

Ignatz, you make a good point, if the matchmaking search time was longer, that'd would negatively affect our experience significantly.. needing to wait a long time for a game just isn't fun.

However, in this particular instance, the particular game Thrsyblade described could have been improved by swapping the red team/blue team assignment of one or two pairs of players. This would not have altered matchmaking search time at all. A refined matchmaking system (that I'm confident we will eventually have) would have performed better team assignment.

I stress again that I completely agree with what you, but in this instance it's not fully applicable.
