In a match of 3 Spartan Catapult CPLT-C1 vs 8 Persian PUGs here is what happened:
A Yen-lo-wang goes to see why a bunch of Spartan Catapult CPLT-C1s are building a wall. The Yen-lo-wang demands to see the Catapult CPLT-C1's superiors and shouts to the Spartan Catapult CPLT-C1s, "Who commands here? I am the emissary to the ruler of all the Inner Sphere. The god of LRMs. The King of Kings. By that authority, I demand that a Catapult CPLT-C1 show me your commander." The Yen-lo-wang waggles its AC/20 arm and looks around and whips some infantry into shape. The Spartan Catapult CPLT-C1 are unimpressed, but they lock their LRM on target. The Yen-lo-wang is unimpressed and says, "Listen, you think the paltry dozen or so you slew scare us? These hills swarm with our Raven 3L scouts. Do you think your pathetic LRMs will do anything but fall like a heap of dry leaves in the face of true battlemechs?" The Yen-lo-wang now notices a bunch of dead Persian Raven 3L scouts litter the area, killed in a previous battle.
A single Catapult CPLT-C1 boldly strides toward the Persian Yen-lo-wang and announces, "Our ancestors told us stories about LRMs. With a little help from Spartan Catapults, your persian Raven 3Ls provided the proof about the LRM powers."
The Yen-lo-wang howls at the defiant Spartan Catapult, "You will pay for thinking LRMs are good!" The Catapult CPLT-C1 fires a single volley of LRM 20s with artemis towards the Persian Yen-lo-wang and instantly, the LRMs melt the armor from the persian battlemech. It's arm flies off and the entire torso and center torso armor has been torn to pieces. Multiple critical hits blaze in the cockpit of the Persian Yen-lo-wang and the pilot screams in agony, "My AC/20 arm!"
The defiant Spartan Catapult announces, "Your AC/20 arm is not yours anymore. Go now. Retreat and tell your group that Catapult CPLT-C1s can be good 'mechs now! You face free 'mechs here and not slaves to ECMs. Now leave before I use more LRMs on you." The wounded Yen-lo-wang barks, "No, we wont use LRMs, we will use SRMs, we will use POP Tarts, we will use Raven 3L ECM mechs. We will use Atlas DDCs. You will face a million Short Range Missiles!"
The defiant spartan Catapult laughs, "Then, we shall learn to fight at range with LRMs."
A few minutes pass by, the Spartan Catapults form a defensive line and have all areas of approached covered with sensors and TAG. A few more minutes pass when the ground starts to rumble. One of the Catapults asks, "Earthquake?" The proud Spartan Catapult CPLT-C1 responds, "No Atlas." In the far distance, the a group of eight enemy Battlemechs form a roughly formation. There are Raven 3Ls, the wounded Yen-lo-wang, A few Atlas DDcs, and the rest are splat Cats and pop-tarts. They seem to be joking with each other and ready to kill the 3 Spartan Catapult CPLT-C1s. The leader of the Catapults orders, "This is where we hold them! This is where we fight! This is where they die! Earn these LRMs, boys!" The other Catapults approve and give each other a military salute. The Spartan catapult Leader continues, "Remember this day Catapults. The Day we can fight as gods, for it will be yours for all time!"
A single Persian Raven 3L walks slowly to within TAG range of the Spartan Catapult CPLT-C1 and boldly annouces, "I have ECM! Spartans you are out numbered 8 to your 3. Lay down your weapons and we will kill you fast!" A single red tag beam hits the Raven 3L under defensive ECM cover and within seconds a volley of LRMs hit and kills the Raven 3L before it can move. The battleground is now 7 persian 'mechs versus 3 Spartan Catapult CPLT-C1s.
The leader of the Spartan Catapults boasts, "Persians come and get us!"
The enemy group all cheer and their commander shouts full charge! A single Atlas DDC looks backwards and commands everyone forward to charge and kill the Spartan Catapults.
All the Persians charge, a pop-tart Cataphract enters PPC range and fires at a Spartan Catapult, which bleeds armor from the side torso. The yen-lo-wang charges and is gearing up its lasers for a fight. The Spartan Catapults pick seperate targets and targets them with TAG. Within seconds, LRMs fly and hit the advancing persian group. The Pop-tart Cataphract goes down - it was hit on the left arm - but both legs were destroyed by LRM fire. The Yen-lo-wang blows up in a spew of white and red fire as LRMs hit it from multiple directions. Two splat catapults implode as LRMs whistle in on them. After a few moments, the 3 Spartan Catapult CPLT-C1s look at a lone Raven 3L who decided to stay with his group, which is now dead. The Persian Raven 3L pilot begins to shake in fear.
He decides to try to hide and run out of range. However, he is within tag range still and the commander of the Spartans say, "He looks like he needs LRMs." with that, all three Spartans fire LRMs and instantly destroy the head and legs of the Raven 3L. The Spartan Catapults are happy - they are all at +90% armor and have plenty of LRM ammo.
Then all three Spartan Catapults notices their radar giving out "low signals." The last of the persian enemy battlemech has reached them - a 100 ton ATLAS DDC with ECM. It grins and looks at the hapless catapults and fires a wave of SRMs at them. A Spartan Catapult shouts, "Atlas DDC!" All three Catapults backpedal from the Atlas. The SRMs are impotent mostly and exploded around the Catapult. The Atlas is still hidden under ECM and is about 190 meters from the Catapults. The Catapults fire their LRM blindly at the Persian Atlas. The Atlas pilot knows he has ECM, but the LRMs hit close enough to his legs to destroy all of his leg armor and his right torso. Another volley of LRMs destroys the Atlas.
Are LRMS too powerful?

Ephialtes
After the first battle, the three Spartan Catapults recover and begin to repair and re-arm their battlemech. Two of the Catapults talk strategy, "Commander, this is frozen city. We can hold the Persian Army if we cover the cave and the crashed dropship approach. From this spot, we can see anything - and tag them with LRMs." Both Catapults survey the map.
While doing so, a strange battlemech goes near the commander. The other two Catapult CPLT-C1s snear and jeer at it. It is a mishapen Catapult CPLT-C4 wearing the tattered colors of Sparta. The C4 Catapult is almost assaulted by one of the Spartan Catapult CPLT-C1; however, the leader of the Catapult CPLT-C1 quickly starts a conversation with this strange battlemech... the Catapult CPLT-C4. The Catapult CPLT-C4 explains that his name is Ephialtes and that he was born to Spartans but instead of being an CPLT-A1 catapult, a CPLT-C1 Catapult, or even a CPLT-K2 Catapult; he was born as a CPLT-C4 Catapult. He was discarded, but the love of his parents spared him and they fled Sparta in fear that they would kill this odd battlemech.
Ephialtes declares, "There is a secret valley to the side - opposite of the cave. FEW Pug members even know about it. If the Persian PUG Battlemechs use it - they could engage you within LRM range. I want to be part of your army and lance noble Catapults and redeem the C4 honor."
Ephialtes, the CPLT-C4 Catapult, says, he has 4 missile hardpoints and 2 energy hardpoints. He has two small lasers and four LRM 5s with a bunch of LRM ammo. Of course, he dropped the standard engine to 175 to fit all the ammo tonnage and added a ton of single heat sinks! Ephialtes starts to wildly shoot his small lasers to show the bold leader of the three Spartan CPLT-C1 Catapults that Ephialtes could fight! Ephialtes boasts, "I can slay many Persian PUG commandoes that do not move!" While boasting he grunts excessively to show his ... enthusiasm.
The leader of the Spartan CPLT-C1 Catapult nods and says, "Fine weapons. However, do you have TAG?" Ephialtes looks scared and shakes his head as a negative. The leader of the Spartan C1 Catapult continues, "You see we use TAG to mark our target and to attack enemies under the cover of ECM. Without TAG there is no guarentee we can use you. If you want, after the battle - you can re-arm us with your spare ammo and kill any Persians badly damaged. However, we can not use you in the main fight."
Ephialtes - the CPLT-C4 screams, "You are wrong Spartan Catapults. The C4 can be a good Catapult too! You are wrong!" With that he leaves.
After a few more minutes, one of the Spartan Catapult CPLT-C1 returns from recon and announces to the leader that a small force of Persian battlemechs approaches. However, they do not look battle ready.
The leader of the Spartan Catapult decided to meet this force alone, it seems that his hunch was right - it was an emissary from the Persians. As he approaches, the leader of the Spartan Catapult says, "Let me guess you are... xerxes the king of the Persian an Atlas AS7-D-DC with ECM?"
This battlemech was colored in gold and was sitting on a huge throne that four commandoes were carrying. The AS7-D-DC xerxes Atlas battlemech powers up and walks off the throne. To ensure that his feet are not sullied, the commandoes fall down and form a cushion for the mighty Atlas, xerxes. The Persian king, xerxes - the Atlas, speaks, "Come Spartan Catapult, let us reason together. It would be a regretable waste to kill youall, it would be nothing short of madness to use LRMs against ECM battlemechs and superior Persian designs such as the Cataphract and our Awesome battlemech. You are a brave Catapult, let us reason together, it would be a regretable waste to have you destroyed, it will be nothing short of madness to have you brave Catapult and your valiant troops parish because of a simple misunderstanding."
The Persian king Atlas, xerxes, proudly looks into the Spartan Catapult and continues, "There is much our two cultures could share. We use SRMs and you use LRMs."
The Spartan Catapult smiles and says, "I have noticed! We have been sharing our LRMs and our 'culture' with you all morning."
The Persian King Atlas, xerxes, smiles, "You are a facinating lance. You are facing a full lance of multiple PUG Persian battlemechs armed with normal PPCs, SRMs, SSRM2s, and ECM. Even now you are defiant faced with utter destruction and within the presence of a god battlemech, I have both the ECM item and Endo-Steel and four basic skills unlocked with SRMs. It is unwise to face me in battle, Spartan Catapult. Imagine what horrible fate awaits you when I will gladly force march my men to charge you without cover and into death and LRM fire to kill you. I will GLADLY let any of my team mate PUGs die so we can kill you and win for victory."
The defiant Catapult retorts, "I will gladly use LRMs and tactics to save my Catapults and if need be die myself so others can live."
The xerxes King Atlas responds, "You CPLT-C1s Catapults take pride in your LRMs. I suggest you use logic and LRMs. We will rule you. Consider your lands you defend and think of your other allies, the fate of the CPLT-K2 Catapults."
The Spartan CPLT-C1 Catapults balks, "Clearly you never faced a Spartan CPLT-K2 Catapult in battle with dual Gauss or ERPPC and Double Heat Sinks. I might as well march them over and show you how to fire gauss into 'mechs with ECM protection too. Judging from what I have seen you Persian PUGs do not use tactics or cover, only depend on ECM for help. You have many Battlemechs as PUGs and many of them use single heat sinks and Ferro-Fibrous armor instead of Endo Steel Armor, but few warriors. It won't be long before they fear my LRMs more than your Persian SRMs."
The xerxes Persian king Atlas strides toward the Spartan CPLT-C1 Catapult and boldly says, "It is not the SRMs they fear, but ECM and my devine power. But, I am a generous god, I can make your rich and leader of any forum post. I will make you warlord of all the Inner Sphere, if you will carry my SRMs in your battlemechs. All you have to do is power down your three LRM Catapults and GG (surrender)."
The CPLT-C1 Catapult thinks for a moment and responds slowly, "You are generous as you are... divine with the use of your ECM and SRMs. Oh king of kings, such an offer only a madman will refuse." The Catapult pauses and then begins to stride a bit backwards and then retorts, "But the.. um... idea of powering down and saying GG (surrender) to Persian PUGs without a fight... well... you see I have been on my keyboard all day and my 'G' key does not work anymore or the 'P' key to power down from excessive use of my keyboard. I have been killing your Persian PUG battlemechs with my LRMs with my mouse and keyboard. So powering down and saying GG (surrender) will be out of the question."
The xerxes Persian king Atlas D-DC howls back, "There will be no glory for you or your LRMs! I will make sure no one watches any youtube video or stream from your Spartan Catapults and ensure that the mere google search of your battlemech or of LRMs will be discarded. Every piece of Battletech lore and fiction of the CPLT-C1 Catapult will be removed. Even the UNSEEN 'mechs will be better known than your LRMs or that the CPLT-C1 Catapult variant even existed. The mere mention of LRMs on the forums or of the catapult will be locked and erased! It will be as you never existed!"
Defiant the CPLT-C1 Catapult commander announces, "The world will know that few LRM 'mechs faced many and that even an Atlas with ECM can be defeated by TAG and LRMs."
