I thought that 'F2P game' and 'game done right' were mutually exclusive conditions. I've yet to find one that fits both.

Is F2P "done Right" Sustainable?

At $15.00 dollars a month, MWO would cost a player $180.00 annually. My Founders package is more than a year old and I spent $120.00 and have just recently run low on that initial MC infusion.
So by my figgerens, I have already saved 60.00 in my first year, got to help kick start the MechWarrior game I have been waiting on for 10 looooong years and will likely save an additional $74.00 dollars with another annual MC purchase.
Sustainability, is like most things. Take care of them and treat them right and they will last longer than if you don't.
Then when CW arrives, I will click the Start Button and then off to the races I go in my Stable of Mechs.
So I am saving monies using this F2P model and when I told my wife that, she liked it to. It just doesn't get better than that.

TF2, LoL, DotA 2.
All great, fair payment schemes, all doing really well, all likely to continue doing so.
F2P is a perfectly workable model, even when done in a way that isn't designed to screw your players.
