CW and clans will be a game changer, MWO will be an entire new game when all that comes.

They've given us fk all info to prove that. Presently, Clans is a pipe dream and CW is a vauge content mega-patch coming in the 'near future.'

The game is a beta, fine. The game is far from done, ok fine. Neither of these are reasons why they should NOT be advertising the HELL out of this title at every gaming event possible.

CW will not be a game changer, it will be the only thing that could possibly make this game WORTHWHILE. If it flops, the game dies. If it is even moderately good, the game will do well enough. Clan function is too far off to worry about, and will be fraught with balance issues.

Hawken is an inferior game when it comes to being a mech pilot. And yet they are advertising the shart out of it.

Maybe someone at marketing is ashamed of MWO and so they want to give it as little exposure as possible.

that worries me...

and to be honest the lack of marketing for MWO is worrisome.

Not really anything to promote unless your a Btech vet.

"We got deathmatch! And we got.. uhh, well deathmatch with a capture option! WOOO!"

We don't even have deathmatch. If we had deathmatch we'd be BETTER OFF; having new players join a game and get capped out before they can even fire a few shots off at another 'Mech will make them drop MWO like a kid with expensive china.

The general public doesn't want "capture this tiki torch-lit square that may or may not represent the Coordinator of Space Japan," they want giant 'Mechs blowing the everloving **** out of one another.

Hell, go look at how people typically play Battlefield 3 these days. The game typically devolves into deathmatch with two or three guys who know what they're doing playing ring around the flag to win the match.

Its coming to Steam.

I saw the database early access for it along with 3 other things.

This will help a lot. Will also provide lots of new people to blow up. Anyway, they'll probably market more heavily once the game is more complete.

Im greatly concerned about one bit of CW. The hatred the players seem to be devoting towards the ability to pick maps and mechs. Youre telling me youre completely fine random dropping on a planet for the one fight you get before you win or lose that planet?

See this is what worries me. I've heard that Hawken isn't doing so well, player numbers are down and such (Hearsay of course), but for a game that's ostensibly not doing so good, it's got a storm of marketing going.

We got nuthin.

Also to the people saying 'there's not much to show, it's Beta' yadda yadda, I hope you realize that conventions and such are used to showcase games in 'development'. Like, you know, this one.

I'm am however intrigued about the Steam news.

As the game sits right now I don't like the thought of knowing the map before you pick the mech because of the obvious cheese out factor.

But that is mainly because the maps are pretty terrible and one dimentional. Now i actually like Desert pretty good as its much more balanced. If all the maps were equally balanced I wouldn't care as much. Or if they have say 3 different maps per planet and you know the planet you're dropping on but not exactly where. But I don't see them having that many maps possible when they are only giving us 6 legitimately different maps now.

I could go hardcore and say that a Mechwarrior has -A- mech and he has to fight with that where ever he drops, but everyone knows thats not how online PvP games work and know it would never fly.

So you have a very good point and I'm good with picking mechs after knwoing the map when things are more complete and if the maps are more well balanced.

Edit:

You have a point, however this game isn't -just- in development, its playable to all the public. If I were on the marketing team looking at the state of things i wouldn't want to bring too many new people into playing a game this unfinished, because most casual gamers once you scare them off they often don't come back. Too many options available.

That's just the thing though and the reason I picked Hawken. It's in the same boat as MWO. It's Open Beta, it has bugs, matchmaking issues etc etc. The only real advantage Hawken has is that its much easier to get into. And yet they're marketing the heck out of the game.

Nvidia is footing the bill for Hawken's media presence. That game is way deader than MWO, but Nvidia is hoping to beef up the player base and use it as a launch title for project shield by putting some advertising lube into it. PGI just doesn't have the funding for presence at things like PAX after IGP squandered the five million from founders on two other awful games.

I was assured by forumgoers that this was a dirty, stinking, untrue rumour. Then I felt really bad about even thinking it.

Yeah, the MW:Tactics ads make the game look to be Zynga-level **** of the IP.

They look terrible.
