Camping is fighting defensively. It makes an enemy work for their victory and is a historically strong tactic. There is nothing cowardly in waiting till the enemy comes to you and smashing them while the break themselves against your defenses. Read some Sun Tzu.

Way to take some constructive criticism there Peekaboo. I agree with Stun, strategically holding a choke point or frequently traveled spot on a map is a very fair and effective tactic, far better than moving your entire team in random directions across the battle zone so you don't "camp".

That is a legitimate strategy but it's not what people tend to do. A lot of games one team just holds up somewhere, particularly on that hill in frozen city, and waits for the other team to come at them knowing that they will all be together while the other team will most likely be at least a little split up by the differing mech top speeds.
Really its down to PGI to give teams a reason not to do this though. Since they've nerfed the rewards for capping its not really a reason not to camp anymore.

It's really a matter of what your teams composition is like. If you have a whole bunch of brawlers with MLs and SRMS you would do better on offence. If you have guys with LRM's, LLs, and gauss's defence works rather well. It is a real tactic in every sense, and if you are tired of dealing with "campers" (really this term doesn't belong in MWO, camping like in other FPS games is nearly impossible) then create a so called "real tactic" to counter them.
It's a tactic like any other tactic, and your disdain towards it won't change the fact.

Why should a combat strategy be restricted from use in a combat game?

It shouldn't but in order to make the game interesting strategies need to have pros and cons, at the moment the pros of camping are massive and the cons are non existent.

Couldn't care less what you turn a blind eye too or not, just found it funny you mentioning people's education and yet not checking the title before you posted. Not that I'm some sort of grammer person, but its the title of all things.
Just relax man, no one cares how mad you get

So let me get this straight. Base rushing is bad cause folks won't fight, And camping is bad cause it forces one side to be put at a disadvantage in a fight? I am seeing a familiar pattern in this line of thinking.

but it works! if i stand gaurd and take out some one approaching like a hunter springing a trap then all for the better, that's a stratagy in a combat game. camping also has it's draw backs if you stay too long and focused for too long you recieve a surprise flanking to the face another legit stratagy. so spot the camper go round and shoot him in the back, lols all round!

Actually the assault game type is bad, conquest goes a long way towards solving the problem because it encourages teams to move around the map and thus you get a bunch of more varied engagements and if one team camps you have options beyond run at them and hope you're a better shot than they are.
