I suggest that no perfectly intact head is destroyed in a single volley regardless of damage math. Just leave one point in there.

First of all new players are the most likely to be standing still and thus the majority of the victims. I believe it will help new player retention because a one-shot death feels very unfair. Two-shot reduces the feeling of injustice of the event because they won't be able to use the words "without warning" (their head turned very red).

Secondly it has a new player training aspect. The very red head may immediately change their behavior and they will try to self-preserve.

Thirdly, it *might* cause more mixed loadouts on snipers. They could mount an ERLL or small LRM/SRM and fire it concurrently to try and finish their kill with a little before or after damage. Either way they are extending their variety of loadout which is a good thing.

Perhaps I should have made a poll out of this. Except opinionated opinion polls are a pet peeve of mine.

Match Score punishes accuracy already, don't bring in a second aggressor. Cockpit-shots are fine, not everyone can handle it and thats fair enough. As for newbies, they should face other newbies. Problem solved.

What you should be asking for is the Devs to make it so a Command Console gives two cockpits, requiring the 'head' box to be 'killed' twice, just as the Battle Tech Command Console rules detail.
