Here is an idea to spice things up for the MWO economy. The developers should add a “technician fee” to the Mechlab. Anytime a player refit’s their BattleMech, either changing weapons, engines, equipment, or upgrades, you will have to pay a modest 5% fee to cover the costs associated with the changes. The technician is responsible for the upkeep and operation of the BattleMech.

Thoughts/Opinions?

I would suggest using the same system that MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries used. That is a fee based on the number of critical slots modified.

If that was implemented, the cost of Endo Steel, Ferro Fibrous, and Double Heat Sinks could be reduced, as there would be an inherent cost involved in both adding and removing them. The size of DHS would make them triple the cost of using SHS. ES and FF both occupy 14 critical slots, which would also be rather expensive.

Here's an idea to spice things up: punish people for tweaking their builds in a game where the main selling point is tweaking your build. This is good for the game because

If I had made a Mechwarrior game, I would have probably introduced this early on, as basic feature of the game, because if you add it later, people will hate theNew Game Experience.

I would have probable made the Mechlab and the "Mercenary Corps" thing a more involved affair: But probably would have also provided a way to just kill people in mindless Pvp matches because sometimes that is what people want, and not Mech Economy 101.

No.

What, things aren't expensive enough for you now? I can see it; once it's released as a C-Bill sink and runs for a while PGI will introduce a cash grab by allowing you to contract for maintenance services for a month for 2500MC.

Seriously? What are you thinking? This is not an MMO with an economy that can be influenced by people having large amounts of ingame currency (i.e. it's not a competitive economy, there can be no inflation, people don't sell to each other, etc) so all you are proposing is a money sink in game that doesn't have an "economy" and therefore doesn't need one.

Short version: There is no Mechwarrior economy to spice up.
