Problem: Most matches I've seen on Youtube that were played by MWO gurus end up with occupying sweet spots and waiting for the enemy to make a mistake. Then taking the enemy down 1 by 1. Meaning if you want to successfully grind C-Bills, you need to camp. I guess you could flank this setup if only you knew exactly the enemy location.

Solution: I would like to suggest a Scanner Sweep module that can do a snapshot of enemy locations, with a cooldown of 1 minute. Unlike the Starcraft's scanner sweep that I linked above, in MWO it would just reveal the whole map, and keep the targets on it for 1 minute, as they were scanned, perhaps slowly fading out over time. Unless somebody else casts the sweep.

Whoever casts the sweep becomes visible to the enemy on their global map as well (as a snapshot, not permanent tracking), which makes sense as they emit a huge wave, which cannot stay unnoticed.

Presense of EMS on the scanned mech or group may distort how these red dots are displayed on the map. So if all mechs are within range of one EMS mech, it may show as one big red dot or something like that.

Benefits: Introduction of such module would encourage people to move around the battlefield. You don't move - you get easily flanked! So no more ambushes in both Assault and Conquest. I think MWO is about a dynamic gameplay, and not target camping.

Like your idea, but with few tweaks.
Have ECM affected mech hidden from the map itself. Because even with a giant red-sot, that's enough information to find where they are.

It would have to be longer than 1 minute. 8 players (12 in the near future) will have access to it, so the cooldown needs to be a tad longer, like a 90 to 120 second wait. If you had a team of 4 (premade or otherwise), that had it, they could scan you every 15 seconds when managed correctly... which is a significant portion of information gathering at those intervals.

I like this idea! Maybe call it "satellite sweep" or something, but the basic functionality seems like a good idea.

Also, maybe they could consider giving a close ranged version for the BAP. Please?

I'm guessing you all are rather new to MW then, the answer is no!

This red dot can be big enough, to distort the information received from the scanner. So for example, if there is only one mech in there with ECM, or 3 mechs, and one is with ECM - you won't tell the difference. However, it would still be useful for where to expect the ambush from.

No objection here. But consider this first. If everybody has this scanner on one team, their firepower would be severely crippled (it could be balanced this way, i.e. the module is heavy). So yes, they know where you are, but you have more guns. And don't forget that when you scan, the enemy can also see you. So you just revealed your location to the enemy. Seems fair to me.

Thanks for your opinion. Care to elaborate?

Not really. See here: The Beagle Active Probe, or BAP, is a sensor suite that enhances the units onboard detection systems. Essentially it boosts radar coverage, locking and scan strength.

A satellite scan would be good, doesnt have to be highly detailed, but can give you rough approximation of what is where.

I'd like to see a 5 helicopter line or grid sweep call in. if the enemy shoots the copters down, they end up returning less/no information, if not the grids & enemy locations & radar even could act as a 30 second TAG on all enemies detected in example.

this is what a BAP should do in my opinion not extend range but spot stuff http://www.sarna.net...le_Active_Probe
