There seems to be a desire to cater to the gamers that aren't quite interested in MWO yet. They can hear the phone ringing with 3rd person coming 'soon'. But it might take strafing to get the Hawken, Battlefield, COD players into MWO. Can't wait to see Centurions doing the electric slide!

They don't have strafing in World of Tanks and that game has a healthy population.

But mechs have legs and could strafe whereas tanks can't.

Tanks don't have legs, so it isn't plausible. It is plausible with bipedal mechs.

Wait do you mean strafing like turning my torso 90 degrees in relation to my legs, so I can fire my guns perpendicular to my direction of movement?

That's kind of already in the game. But thanks for the hyperbole.

Call of Mechwarrior

Mechfield: 3050

Both are not happening. It seems for some people 3rd person mode is somehow related to CoD and Battlefield?

How could a mech sidestrafe without 4 legs?

Until this game becomes a short (1 v 1) TTK and non-tactical shooter, I'll be pretty fine with it. Coolant pods are a wasted module slot in comp play, but are a helpful crutch for some newer players getting the feel for a game that emphasizes heat management. It's not like they'll never learn how to make a heat efficient build, but rather realize when their skill level is high enough, that the coolant pod is a waste of a slot compared to some other passive permanent modules.

Plausible but not probable.
Take a good look at nearly all mech legs and tell me they're going to be able to walk at a decent pace sideways without looking goofy.

And LAMs: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Land_Air_'Mech . But I doubt they will ever make it into MWO.

Well now it all depends on the 'vision' ™. I admit that the current mech designs would have to be redesigned at the hip joints to accommodate strafing, but surely it's not that big of a task. PGI must do it for our Battlefied and COD friends.

I see where you are coming from now. Trust me: If they truely wanted a pure FPS they would have just made it that way from the start. I know you're incredibly bu.tthurt concerned about the "gas pedal" throttle and the arm lock option, but I actually appreciate the options and use them. And I can't even remember the last time I played a Call of Duty multiplayer, and the last Battlefield title I played was 2142 (back in 2006).

LAM designs are unseen, not the concept though

I wasn't able to sit down as a result today, but it's getting better. I did turn the options off immediately after the match, so it wan't all that bad.

You can even turn it off in match, options are accessible from pressing Esc now.

In MW:O Mechs cannot move their legs in the same manner as a human. Look at the K2 in the forum background pic, it wouldn't be able to side strafe and it has two legs.

yes yes yes, but the 'vision' ™ could change. Remember that the devs are like weeble wobbles, nothing is sacred or fixed in stone here.

strafing? But we already have that. theres a reason we have torso twist. I refuse to have cod or bf3 doods come here and dictate PGI or tell us what mechwarrior game should be.

IF YOU WANT THAT!!! GO PLAY HAWKEN!

Actually, according to lore, they can do all kinds of things that we have never seen them do in the MW games. They can even swing their legs and kick, or stomp mechs into the ground. They also have melee weapons for ultimate awesomeness.
