Trial Of Position With Dev Thomas(Aka The Weapons Engineer)

When we dropped up on the alpines, I noticed the pilot Thomas Dziegielewski in the mechwarrior roster. I was excited, this pilot was very well known indeed. I booted up my communications and hailed this warrior based on his high standing in the IS research devision focusing on all things weapons.
He responded pleasantly enough, and I grew even more excited in the upcoming battle. In a fit of hysteria, I decided it was time to try my hand at the Clanners form of a duel, or a trial of position as they called it (for reasons I've not figured out yet) "I challenge you, Thomas Dziegielweski to a trial of position!"
My challenge must have came to him as a shock, as I'm sure none born inside the Inner sphere had attempted this prior, and he did not respond. I took this as an agreement, better to assume he accepted than to miss the precious opportunity!
In the alps I had the fortune to be piloting my Yen lo wang variant of a centurion equipped with pulse lasers and a ac20 for force feeding ammunition into the unwilling mouths of a stubborn child unwilling to eat his vegetables.
after scaling the mountain side north east of the drop location, I reached the enemy base where two unpiloted mechs were dispatched before their pilots could enter the fray. Turning around I found myself a retreating enemy catapult which had taken heavy damage and quickly dispatched it before my sensors brought up the tactical readout of my target.
Thomas, I'd found him
He was perched on one of the higher mountain side plains doing battle with both groups of mechs. His mech, just so happened to be a Catapult-k2 equipped with 3 ER PPCs and nothing else. A build worthy enough to make me test it out myself. But one problem for this mechwarrior was his position at the side of his formation. From my location I was able to climb around behind him using the mountain as a shield.
I dropped on him, the rounds from a weapon of his previous design enhancements, an ac 20 straight to the side torso from above. To his credit the pilot did not flinch deciding to forgo the immediate danger of himself in an effort to disable one of my alies.
But 2 more rounds into his mech convinced him I was a threat worth retaliating against. Instead of turning to fight me in a fight where I had the clear advantage, this common sensed mechwarrior retreated to his friendly mechs position for support.
I followed him until I was in a position where, if I continued to drop down the mountain I would be completely exposed without an option of escape without heavy retaliation.
I did not pause however. It was at this moment I said out loud to my self "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED" and jumped down the mountain guns blazing like a clear example of improper mech use in every IS military text book.
Stunned at my entry onto the battlefield the enemy mechs could not believe I'd jumped into the slaughter house like a diver in the 3048 Olympics whilst firing small arms lasers and an anti vehicle projectile weapon, the caliber of which serves as a way compensate for my kurita heritage.
But to me, there were no other mechs, only the injured but fierce mech of Thomas Dziegielewski ahead of me. The were no other concerns I acknowledged even the pack of jagermechs and stalkers that would soon turn my mech into ash.
In a ravenous state of mind, I tore off an arm of the catapult. It only maneuvered around its allies in an attempt to drag me closer into the claws of the formation.
By now the ennemy forces had finally dropped the assault on my allies and turned their attention to me. Immediately slashing me with laser fire, pounding my armor with ballistics and tearing my mech to pieces with short ranged missiles.
Although the shaking in my cockpit caused me to take a heavy hit on the head from the console (possibly giving me a concussion worthy of kerensky) I fired on with my ac20 until it was subsequently torn off by a gauss shot.
No problem, the Catapult was nearly cored, my next shot from my pulse lasers would finish it whole. With extremely precise fire, I managed to core my opponent. But not before a glorious shot from his ER PPC, tore a whole through my engine.
"YES!" I shouted as loud as I could before being promptly ejected from my battlemech to witness my handy work, and destruction.
I was insanely gratified in the notion that I had taken out high profile pilot. However from the skies I witnessed the death of my allied force without dread. I smiled happily and possibly idiotically at my accomplishment.
I realised my bold rush into the ennemy forces caused my allies to try and join in the conflict to help me out. Thereby giving me a defeat. But still I was happy. I would possibly not receive another battlemech ever for such display of idiodicism, but I knew, I would tell the generations of my dishonored family that I defeated the mighty weapons engineer of the IS coalition forces.
So what I learned today: nothing at all. I shall forever be happy for that privileged occasion.

That's because you never shut up about your cannons. Autocannon-20s, that is.
Perhaps the tale wasn't canon, but it was entertaining, so I doff my hat at you, sir. Well done.

You gotta admit, hitting someone with an ac20 is a lot more rewarding than hitting them with pulse lasers.

Lets see, you issued a Trial of Position which was accepted. Then you defeated a heavier mech than yours whilst being fired on by others (a violation of trial ritual) that you did not engage first. By canon, not only did you win, but you did so in a spectacularly legendary fashion that would probably make you eligible for a bloodname. Also, since it was a Trial of Position, you are now the head of weapons development. How do you like that?
