It has been stated that mechs with less than three canon variants will not be released.
This cuts out quite a few mechs that people love and are iconic.
I suggest Including them with higher XP costs to unlock skills based off of how many variants there are.
One variant will require three times as much XP to unlock a skill.
Two variants will require 1.5 times as much XP (each) to unlock a skill.
A one variant mech will cost 25,500 XP to unlock speed tweak (just the skill, not total to get to it).
A two variant mech would cost 12,750 XP to unlock speed tweak (again, just that particular skill, not the totals to get to it).
It will take just as much time to unlock the skills for the particular mechs as it does for those that have three variants.

There is a BIG difference. Let's take the RVN for example. How many Raven pilots would choose to have to complete 3x the XP to unlock double basic but only have to pilot the 3L, and never have to pilot (and BUY, mind you) the 2X and 4X? Therefore, I must vote no (unless the variants also COST 3 times as much)

You are better off trying to make up non-cannon/TT variants than to "consolidate" the XP requirements for 3 separate mechs into one.
If you only needed to buy one mech to master an entire chassis, there is a whole lot of brokenness that would come with this.

Why don't they just add the couple canon variants, 1 or 2 for those Mechs without a third or more variant, or whatevs. Then they could create their own non-canon variants? Seems like that would make more sense...

I may not have been entirely clear about this topic.
As of right now, there are several mechs that will never be seen here due to the developers not wanting to release mechs that have fewer than 3 canon variants.
If it was due to needing three variants to unlock skills, or for time played, the XP increase for those specific mechs would allow them to actually see the light of day, if it was in fact the issue.
This would not fix the concern with the developers using man power on a single or two variant mech and losing money when they could make the time "worth while".
C-Bill cost of the mechs or MC cost were not taken into consideration, only the XP requirements.
Again, this suggestion was only made to see who would support the XP idea to get these particular mechs into the game.

This.
It would "break" the 3 variant/chassis rules that is applied for basic/elite mastery.
Even if you "relax" the rules somehow, you are indirectly vouching for a 1 mech mastery system. This is not ideal.
Also, if you relax the basic grinding requirement (3 variants needed), getting the elite one technically requires mastering/eliting 3 mechs of the same weight class...
So... there's no good way to balance this.
