To address a few points I've seen:
* Elo is per weight class, not per chassis. This comes from a dev. I don't remember where, but, I remember seeing a dev say it and I was like "Oh, okay." and have remembered it since.
* The development team has made it clear that this version of Elo is very basic, and they have plans to make it much more rigorous. Notice how the last couple months they've been running constant tournaments, and bug-testing their stat-tracking?
Right now we're running on basic mode. I'm not sure what the scoring metric is (that sort of thing is usually kept secret so that nobody can cheese it), but it's going to be something SUPER simple, like pure damage output versus death time.
It'll be something super easy to programming tracking mechanisms for, but something not really indicative of performance.
And as they improve their stat-tracking (like how much spotting you're doing, how many times you take command and the team wins afterward, that sort of thing), they'll start integrating those things into the Elo calculations.
You probably won't see the system improve in one big drop. It won't be "Elo now made 100% better". It'll be behind-the-scenes tweaks, like, figuring out a good ratio of "how long you're alive" to "how often yoru team wins".
But it'll get there. No devs are saying "This system is done!" they're just saying "It's in place, and now we can improve it piece by piece."
Having said all that, yeah, I experience the same problem: my kills vs deaths is hilariously high sometimes, and my matches won is fantastic. I'm clearly not being placed with people in a similar skill bracket, regardless of what my Elo says.
