yes...but when u get all 3 elite you can get double efficiency of the first tiers of upgrades...

i wouldnt sell your atlasses at all though...u take a 50% loss in c-bills if u want to re-buy them and they make c-bills like crazy...

i hate to say it but u should buy some MC for the mech slots...they are the best buy in this game and pretty cheap at 250MC

i think i understand what u are asking though...get those 2 other atlasses filled out at elite and when u buy the third it will also let u research up to elite...giving u the bonus 2x on basic skills

You need to physically own all 3. If you sell one, the experience isn't really lost, but you won't be able to convert the XP or get it to count toward elite or mastery unlock until it is in one of your mech bays again. In other words, you would need to buy it back.

However, once elite or mastery is unlocked for a variant it will stay unlocked. When you have the mastery unlock for the one you do want then it is safe to sell the two that you don't want. Mind you, in order to get to mastery you need to get all 4 elite skills on all 3 mechs. So you'll be piloting all 3 for a while.

is it like this in the actual release? because i bought 3 cataphracts and got them to 8/8 basic. only on the 4X i had enough exp to max out elite and the master slot had a mouseover after that.

so can i sell the unwanted mechs if i have all three on 8/8 basic?

Ah, that was a while ago.

I don't know if at some point the rules changed, or if I was fed bad information to begin with, but I have been told that it is actually possible to master a mech with only one mechbay available. If it works as I've been told, you can go through the basics of a mech, sell it, buy a new variant, train through the basics, rinse, repeat once more, and eventually be able to start training elite on the third purchase once you're through the basics.

In order to unlock master, you only need 3 elite mechs in the same weight class. So if you specialized in one class, like medium or assault, you should be able to get to master with 2 other mechs in the weight class you own. Otherwise, you would have to sell your elite mech and repurchase the basic mechs you previously trained to get them through elite and then one of them to mastery after buying variants of the same mech 6 times and selling 5 of them.

With 3 mech bays, you can simply keep the mechs around while training the others and avoid the need to repurchase any of them.

Regardless of how you unlock mastery, you still need to purchase all four elite optimizations (which unlocks double basics) before mastery of the specific variant opens up. Also, the moment you have the option to purchase the module slot, the mech is officially mastered and the last efficiency will stay unlocked until it is actually purchased. So it is definitely safe to sell all your training mechs if you don't really want them. Even if you haven't bought the module slot yet.

Everyone starts with 4 mech bays free and the minimum $7 MC purchase is actually enough to buy 6 more mech bays. So with that purchase, I have been able to master 5 mechs, including the Centurion, Cicada, Atlas, Trebuchet, and Raven without ever needing to re-purchase a sold mech, and have never actually run out of mech bays to work with. Actually, I'm only using 7 of the 8 mech bays that I purchased, and still have the MC left for 2 more bays. Even if I was given bad data to begin with regarding what it takes to master a mech, I can't say that I regret that purchase at all.

But it's just not something I'm motivated to test any time soon. Sorry.

At the OP: If your only assault Mechs are the Atlasses then you need to keep them and elite them all up in order to bring at elast one to master.

If you already have at least 2 other assault Mechs (like 2 Stalkers or 1 Stalker and 1 Awesome) elited up you can sell your Atlasses and keep the one you want to master without any problems.

This. Whenever you mastered a class, you simply have to buy 3 variants, fill all the basics, sell 1 or 2 of them and the remaining ones will reach master without problems. If it's the first weight class you own, then you must own three variants and reach elite with all the three to unlock mastery.

To the OP: I wouldn't sell away Atlases, unless we're speaking of the K. If you own the D-DC keep it, also RS should be kept and the D as a third (it's the most balanced variant available). The K is useful only for its engine to be stripped and used elsewhere, but there are many more mechs that cost less and bear a XL 300 with them (TBT 3C or Cent D).
