If people put as much effort into playing this game as whinging about it, there really wouldn't all that much to whinge about!
While we're at it, a whinge of my own ( )
Balance. This gets bandied around all the time. What exactly does it mean?
To my reasonably educated eye, 'mechs come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. They all have different loadouts and equipment. They don't all move at the same rate as one another.
Given the infinite possibilities, why are people expecting "balance"?

Wait, that's not what you said, it won't quote what you said about the flamers.
More lol I guess.

Complaining about complaining.
If we were perfectly happy with this game, we probably wouldn't waste time on the forums.

Balance is not symmetry. It's not having two identical things.
Ever seen how the old scales worked? You have different weights. On one side, you put whatever you want to weigh. On the other side, you weigh a bunch of different weights until the scale is balanced.
THe thing on the one side might be a ball of steel, it might be a glass full of feathers.
So you can "balance" some completely different things with different properties.

Haha sorry dude I changed my mind. I think the current statement reflects the sentiments of a much larger, funnier, coolerer crowd.

Haven't answered the question. What is balance in regards to MWO?
Well, you asked the question and then went on with:

What you're pointing out there is a utility disparity in the mechs. The "balance" disparity comes from players simply not using deficient mechs when multi-role purposes can be filled by one variant. the "balancing" would mean adjusting certain variants so they were not so deficient (this is currently unlikely to occur).
"Balance" as an actual question in relation to competitive MWO means not conferring undue advantage on one side or another - and currently with the maps as they stand this is highly debateable. You also may have missed months of "weight" "balance" concerns etc.
At the end of the day, currently the game doesn't need great balance, it needs less bugs, more content and decent game modes.

Balance in MWO would be many ("all" is probably unrealistic/impossible) different mechs and loadouts being equally effective at all levels of play (with an emphasis on high-level play). If one/two mechs or one/two weapons are shown to be vastly more effective than their competition, (or, conversely if certain mechs or weapons are near useless in most situations), that is a sign of very poor balance.
Another Balance-related thought: Balance is made more difficult by the lack of any ability to counter. If you had the ability pre-match to say, "Ok, they've already committed to bringing <X> <particular mech>, we can pick this to counter," then a rock-paper-scissors approach could be effective. Since we don't have that ability, a rock-paper-scissors approach doesn't work since you have the potential to get completely screwed over merely because the matchmaker paired you against a team that counters your team.

Little correction. They look different, have different names, but are most meanwhile only boating same kind of weapons, easy elitekillboatplayer style. Most ppl like diversified loadouts, but your are forced, into boating, to get a chance, but i still try diversified loadout mechs, hard, but sometimes you can **** them.

By 'balance,' most people mean "can I easily and readily kill my fellows in this mech, using only a minimal amount of effort?"
You can see then, why no mech is balanced.
And hopefully, they never will be.

Nonsense. That's not balance and it's insulting that you think it is. No wonder so much hostliity exists in this community if people spread bovine excrement like this.
