My only gripe with his Battlemaster is that the legs look almost copied from his Atlas (on a side note, the Thunderbolt shares the Awesome's legs almost).

The Old Battlemaster was one of the better designs, but the new one is still better.

Aside from any aesthetic concerns there are two problems with the bubble canopy. 1. They can't do it for legal reasons. 2. Oh my aching headshot.

Also, as was noted above, they couldn't use the original look and feel for legal(they only own the rights to the concept of the mech, not the appearance) and technical(where is the actual cockpit for headshot purposes?) reasons.

If the gear tooth Dynasty Shoulder pads were gone and the cockpit was curved I'd have to say Alex's new version would be far better, but with as we're getting I'd still take the old iconic model if given a choice.
Most mecha have similar design patterns, legs, arms, 'waist' torso through out the genre, there is far more variation in designs in the manual's after the 3029 tech book, which I have allways believed is down to using more and less talented artist than were used in the 3029 book, and not because of genuine differences. Alex seems to be using his obvious artistic Skills to bring all different looks under the same design parameters which is sensible, while retaining what makes the mech's look like a Locust,Centurion, or Atlas.
My main gripe with the 3D models created from his concept work are things like (IMO the most obvious differences) the highlander and victor Upper leg and shoulder joints which seem over wide spreading the models and making them look wide and ungainly coupled with a reluctance to put curved surfaces on them, often fails to do Justice to Alex's art

Yeah, I know. I just wish HG would give up already and just let them do the mechs up right.

Yeah they are kind of beating a dead horse a bit arently they. I mean when did Robotech come out. 1986? Only a few of us old foggies probably even remember it though I guess it is kinda of a classic anime.

Not really. Its a hashed together retelling of Macross... Macross is the classic anime.

As is with most things, money is money. While what they've had brewing for so long just reeks of foolishness and desperation, I can understand their point. I would have thought this to be settled a long time ago, but apparently they've got no interest in moving on.
