There was a sad day back when they separated the 8\4 man queues when a bunch of faces disappeared and never returned to this game.

Now they think that adding 3rd person, something the community has polled strongly against every time its mentioned.

Why are they trying to please hypothetical customers by spitting in the face of their current fans?

Really, they are not willing to discuss the merits of 3rd person?

What merits beyond the training wheels factor?

Eh, it could go either way. I'm sure there are plenty of examples of games dying out because they alienated their base, but there are also examples of games that netted way more customers than quitters after a radical change (the transition from Fallout 2 to Fallout 3 springs to mind). We'll just have to see what the final product is like and the results thereof.
