Spider 5V: STD225, 10DHS, Endo, FF, 2xML, 7xJJ, AMS

Yup. You probably already figured out what I did there.

So I was in my post-Jagermech fatigue period and dug out my Spider 5V that I barely used. It's the least armed among Spiders - and every single 'Mech - with the not so significant upper hand in being able to mount 12 JJs, which is not practical in many ways during my test running XL255.

But the two energy hard points are conveniently in the CT.

Thus, against the common sense of running a Light with XL engine, I threw in a STD engine and reduced minimal armor. Seven Jumpjets is still not a small number by any count, and even your both side torsos are blasted away, your flying ability is barely reduced to the "normal" level.

Tested it out for only four matches. Had my side torso blasted away during two of them, one of which I managed to get three more kills after it.

So it works. I assume.

UPDATE: had a few matches with this thing. For some reason people tend to NOT shoot a Spider with only two lasers, which benefits me a lot cuz I've been harvesting a LOT more kill for the past hour. I'm having way to much fun with this thing than I thought I would be.

LOL. I love spiders. I love shooting them, I mean.

An alpha from my 5 PPC 8Q or 6 PPC stalker turns them into a meteor of flames and destruction.

If you could hit an experienced SDR pilot, I would commend you greatly.

It helps tremendously when they jump jet. Very predictable trajectory.

Still not easy though.

When an AC20 shot hits you in the face, it isn't impressed by your experience.

Alright, whatever makes you feel better. All I know is that I have dodged plenty of ballistic and PPC shots.

I don't know about what you see, but I'm not the kind of person who just hold spacebar all the way until fuel runs out and drop to the ground and breaks my legs.

Jumpjet is art.

We have all killed spiders, but lets not pretend its easy. The Op just offered a build idea, and then the Internet dead eyes start talking about taking one in the head on the run from 1000 meters. Lol

Thanks Op for the idea.

During the entire test run I was noticeably bruised by PPC twice, and killed by PPC for ONCE.

In fact I find PPC Stalkers particularly easy to kill thanks to their extremely limped turning angle. Two of the Stalker I backstabbed basically gave up and just let me ravage their rear ends all I want with my tiny twin pin.

The best way to alpha a spider (or any light for that matter) is when they're engaging someone else. It's a whole order of magnitude more difficult when they're focused on you.

I've never really been interested in lights, but I spectated a teammate the other day who was driving a Death's Knell with only an ER PPC and a ML. OMG was he just wrecking people. He's obviously a much better pilot than I'll ever be, but the mechs he was able to bring down with that little pissant was impressive. Almost made me reconsider. Almost.

Just leaving this tidbit here in case you want to get a little more power out of your mech, without destroying what your trying to accomplish.

Remove one heat sink and replace your standard 220 with a standard 225, you end up slightly faster and with better heat efficiency for the cost of nothing if you already have the engine.

DAYUM. Been playing with MWO for too long and forgot the obvious.

Interesting build but I'd strip off 2 armor on the left arm and 3 on the right to max out the head armor. Other then that a solid harasser.

I've never seen anyone headshotting a Spider. Not once. If you can headshot a Spider that is not overheated, you need to buy yourself some lotteries that day.
