I am really new to MWO and have a few questions about the game I need to get some answers to. First off, it appears the only way to buy a mech to customize (none starter mechs) is to buy the currency that I think is called MC. So if I spend money to buy a mech chassis, and then lose it in a match, is it gone for good?

I'm trying to figure out how much money you need to pump into this game to get any enjoyment out of it, and if I am actually going to be buying any in game money at all. If mechs can be lost permanently in matches, then this would seem to be a very costly game to play after a while.

You don't need to buy a new mech each time it gets destroyed. You just buy it once and you can use it as long as you want.
You also don't have to buy your mechs with MC, just earn some C-Bills (you get them after every match) and buy them this way.
It is not necessary to spend any money in this game except if you want to customize your mech or if you want to buy hero mechs :(

Once you buy it, it stays, even if its destroyed.

You don't have to buy it with mc (real money), you earn in game money (cbills) you can spend on stuff, but it takes longer.

theoretically you coul play this game with full funcionality withou ever spending anything, but youll probably want to buy mechbays at least.

You start with 4 mech bays.
The first 20? or so games you will get a "cadet bonus" where you will earn a lot more in game currency called C bills.

With those you can buy a mech. If you do not want to wait you can use real cash to buy MC and buy a mech right away. Each mech has two price tags, one for MC/real money, and the other for Cbills.

The equipment, upgrades, and weapons installed on the mech can only be gotten with Cbills. So every mech that looks like it is better than yours, rest assured that he earned those upgrades and did not pay to win.

You can not buy MC and convert it into C bills, yet.

Getting mor than four mechs require additional mech bays. Those DO cost MC.

And your mech will be yours permanently. You can sell it to free up a mech bay and get some C bills if you like. But it's better to keep it.

Play the game and get yourself a Hunchback 4SP.
Use your C bills to install double heat sinks and endo steel structure.

Is there any way to earn more C-Bills? I just started playing, and this game is neat but once that cadet bonus goes away the C-Bills come in really slow.

The only way to earn more C bills faster is to pay real world money for a premium account.

I usually earn around 100,000 to 120,000 C bills for a winning game, and about half that for a loss.

When I have sprung for a few days of premium I earned about 200,000 for a win.

In addition to that, there are the real world money/MC only "hero mechs". These get a bonus when determining how many Cbills you earn after a game.

I own the "Flame" version of the Dragon 60 ton mech.
I use it when I need more C bills to upgrade my other machines.

Well I thought that was thwe case when I first downloaded this game a few weeks ago but when I open the mech lab, every mech chassis has a MC and most have a c-bill listed price (some just have MC, and it isnt just the Hero mechs either). So that';s why I was a little concerned. It's good that once you guys it you don't have to rebuy it if defeated. I have played allot of Eve Online, so I am used to that style of MMO where anything you have cna be destroyed, and once it's gone, it's gone.

I still don't get the mech cost thing. I'm looking at prices right now in the mech lab and every mech I see has at least some level of MC required for purchase.

OK I don't think I undersood that it was an either or transaction, I see that it says at the bottom mc then C bill sunder it. I swear that i tried to buy a none hero mech a week ago and it denied me because I didn't have enough MC. Maybe I was buying an MC onlymehc and didn't realize it. Thanks for the help guys.

I'm confused about the premium account. I get the "you would have earned this much more with premium" after matches and I'm probably stupid but I can't for the life of me find where to pay for it myself.

Your first need to buy MC on this page.
Once you have some you can click the "Add time" button on the main menu of the game.
I think 1 day costs 250 MC, 3 days 650, 7 day 1250 and 30 days 2500 MC but I'm not sure, I haven't done that myself yet. :)
