Still fairly new to the game, getting pretty good at dying, I make a good looking scrap pile. I've been playing with a Cataphract CTF-3D still trying to get the loadout right but getting closer to the right mix. Looking to try another Mech but curious which would be more helpful to others in the field. I'm either going to try a Lite Raven RVN-3L or the or go Assault and try a Stalker. Which seems to be more needed most of the time in the game? I'll slowly fill my garage with an assortment but want to be helpful while I'm learning.

both are good picks, with the missile nerf, net code improvements and hit box changes the raven is going to be harder to use effectively now but, it is still a capable light mech. You could also get another cataphract and unlock the elite/master efficiencies. I would play a few rounds in the trial commando and the trial stalker just to see which weight class you like more. Just don't worry about your score, see what suits you better since the trial mechs are kind of bad.

Actual combat using each. These may help.

Raven 3-L
The Watchful Raven

Ravenpack of 3-Ls

Battlecry of the 3-L

Stalker
Crippling a Raven 3-L by stepping on it.

High damage potential; 517 damage in less than 1 minute. Video starts at the first instant I started dealing damage.

3H stalker in a final stand against 5 enemies.

PPC / ER PPC build

Ring around the stalker.

Running a light is very different from the heavy's or assaults. The Raven 3L is very expensive when you add in the cost of the full engine. The total cost adds up to about 11.5 mil C-Bills. The Raven is great fun at speed and you might want to consider a Commando 2D also as a cheaper alternative as an ECM fast mech. In public games an ECM is always wanted as you can fill so many roles, but just not deal massive damage in a short amount of time. As a light pilot I would recommend a light but you need to pretty much choose yourself what you want to do.
