A mode for an attacker/defender combat that offers a trade-off, Higher deployable loadout for attacks, smaller mech restrictions for defenders, but the pay-out for playing the weaker-manned team is higher rewards for success and attempts. In my head, this would encourage more skilled players to take the defensive team and rely on ability to carry them in smaller, less combat-effective mechs for a higher payout, and newer or less skilled players to use heavier mechs and still be moderately competative against their competition due to their superior armor and weapons loadout. Feel free to chime in with tweaks to the idea.

why would the defenders be required to take smaller mechs? keep it balanced.

Because... as the original post said.. the team obligated to take the less combat-effective mechs would get a higher payout for the effort, and yet higher for success, than the team allowed the higher-weight mechs. Again, this would encourage more skilled players to go for the lighter mechs for the bigger payout, and newer or less skilled players could take the bigger mechs and feel effective but receive a lesser payout.
The intent isn't to have balanced mech teams, but to have the lower-weight team comprised of more skilled players going for the larger payout.

Like the Clan bidding system. This would make for interesting and exciting games.
