As long as the drop ques are segregated I couldn't care less. For CW 1st person should be the only option though.

Red orchestra 2 not catering to the CoD players? What... The game became more arcady and had a lot of small maps compared to RO1. They then censored the forum heavily against anyone who spoke against the game. Not to mention what is up with the XP and weapon upgrades unlock system. RO2 is a failed sequel that tried to cater to both hardcore and casual fans, doing neither good.

The only company I think I can suggest PGI to copy is Valve and what they are doing with Dota 2. The game hasn't been dumbed down and they are adding tutorials with a little twist to be more entertaining as like a "story mode". Why can't Mechwarrior have something similar? Dota 2 also peaked 311,000~ players today without it being dumbed down to casuals. And yes I'm aware that game has a lot more exposure and a professional scene.

You should care as when the ques do get segregated we'll end up with essentially 1/4th of players that play it now.

Servers + 3rdPV segregation.

I'm not saying that PGI looks up to Tripwire on RO2, but RO1 and learns from their mistakes on RO2.
You don't attempt to appease a potential customer if it means losing the ones you already have.

Even if he did screw up RO2 by trying to appease the CoD masses, Gibson's words are the truth and should definitely be taken into consideration when making ANY game that steers from the mainstream.

LOL is growing. WOT is growing, DOTA is growing. MWO can grow, but it needs to reaffirm what it is and what it isn't and settle down on that. Splitting the queue is a bad idea in general, but there are some instances where it might benefit, like new user experience (trial mechs).

Do you really think there will be non-CW matches once it is implemented?

Pretty much. Tripwire spent a lot of time and effort into making a mode for their game that would appeal to the masses. I recently re-installed RO2 and I couldn't find a single populated "Firefight" (the casual game mode) server active. The folks who like the current casual shooters just aren't interested. MWO fills a similar niche. Giant robot combat is only going to be interesting to those of us who are already heavily invested in the franchise. MWO has the chance to grow the brand a bit, but it's core audience already knows about MWO, plays it, and pays for it. It's core audience is responsible for raising them over $5,000,000 with the founders program. Mechwarrior just doesn't have mass appeal. It has a small, extremely dedicated fanbase. If PGI had any sense, they'd focus on milking us for every penny we had, and we'd pay out the arse to keep this game afloat because it's the only game out there scratching our particular itch for giant robot combat.

Trying to appeal to everyone is only going to leave your core left out and the masses unenthused.

This.^

They could milk us, the core, by adding more (and entirely new) game modes, only unlocked with MCs, like: Solaris Championship and even a single player mode (basically MW1 with MWO technology).

And of course, making a "Clan Founder" program. Hmmm... Founder Timber Wolf...

About 3rd person view, there is no problem if added ONLY in Training Grounds. It has no place in competitive matches.

3rd person! The Sky is falling!

Not in the slightist. This is one of those issues that people are completely overreacting to.

Its been in every MW game in the past. It will make it easier for new players to understand mech movement. It is awesome to go into 3rd person and look at your mech go to work.

It is a tactical advantage over 1st person, but if they keep it seperate, as they said they would, then there is NOTHING to get upset about.

I'm concerned about what would happen to the player base after being split from region, 3rd person preference, and finally ELO rank. Then I would be worried if PGI would keep making these types of changes to appeal to more players or leave it to this.

Yes, the region split will be tough. WSB is comprised of many US and EU players, so we are concered to say the least.

3rd person completley depends on how they implement it.

ELO was never a problem, because after a certain amount of time it will just match people, regardless of the ELO disparity.

But yeah, not enough people playing could make all 3 of these an issue.

On the bright side, I can't think of any more issues that are large enough to split the playerbase. Maybe a trial mech only mode, but I doubt they would do that.
