Couple of ways to go with the COM.

From my personal experience, and I have Elited the heck out of the commando. (didn't unlock master yet because the other scouts aren't as appealing to me).

1- Sniper: however you will suffer from lack of JJs. The 3A is good for that since it has plenty of energy hardpoints for you to fit. I would recommend a PPC. You can also do with the 2D and have ECM to cover you, don't know the exact value of it since your shots will reveal your location anyways, but it will allow you to get into position without being spotted.

2- Brawler and heavy hunter: If it's an energy based Brawler you want the 1B or TDK, mount them with Medium Lasers or Small/Medium Pulse Lasers, and you're good to go. Hybrid Brawlers would be the 3A and the 1D, both of which have 2 energy points and 2 missile points. Slap some MLs, and Maybe SSRM2s or SRM4s on it and you are hitting hard. It should be noted that teh 1D has one arm with no hardpoints, which means you can use that as a shield, to tank damage.

3- Scout Hunter and Heavy Harass/hunter: This one is the 2D, a lot of scouts will rely on ECM and that can be a pain, unless you have your own to counter theirs. take out the SRM6 and put an SRM 4 there and another SRM4 on your Right arm, slap either a Medium Laser or a TAG (if you decide to use 3 Streak SRM2s which is devastating) on the left arm and you are now ready to turn any scout into rubble. I have also seen triple SRM6s on the 2D specifically to just alpha heavier mechs in the back and work like a mini splat cat. it is very devastating.

4- Dedicated escort for Support/indirect fire lances: You want the 2D for that. Strap both an ECM and AMS with 1 ton of ammo for the AMS ( maybe 2). Use only streak2s and either ML, SL or MPL. Put C.A.S.E. on your ammo and chase away lights that come to harass, your streaks should rip them fast, and give your lance ECM coverage and also AMS cover just incase someone counters your ECM, or blind fires LRMs.

One strong point of the commando is that it's small and just that much harder to hit. At least with anything except streaks and that is the main problem.

Streaks core your commando before you can say "raven 3L"

The arms on the commando don't make up for the massive torso twist of the Jenner.

It's best role, in my opinion, is its cost. You could buy three Commandos for one Raven...

Not if you want to actually be effective. Its a little cheaper than a -3L but you really only save on FF that you can't fit after the )(@#(^@#^ required external heatsinks.

That being said my -2D is pretty nasty I think I have like a 10:1 KDR in it. I only use it occasionally though.

Commandos are the adjatives of the mechwarrior world. They find their value in the fact that they modify what ever they are with. You have to choose who you would be with, because you aren't really that good on your own. Don't trust me? Put ecm on your 2d and follow a dragon. Not because the streaks are all that good any morebut because ecm, and team work kills lots of stuff. Lots of stuff will die. If you own a deaths knell look team up with a jenner or a raven. It's really cool what happens. I put a 200 standard fron my hunchie into a 3a and followed cicadas and spiders for a day, it was cool. Nearly thought free. My commandos exist to make the really good builds even better. Someday i may make a post of how to mod your commandos to make every good build last longer.
