I was about ready to sell my AWS-8R. I was getting bored of my quad SRM-6+Artemis configuration, when I decided to try something else.

The AWS-8R is my only missile-boating 'mech, so I decided to keep it for that purpose - To let the enemy fight in the shade!

I wish there was an Archer in MWO, but the Catapult and AWS-8R will ahve to do. I wanted a heavier 'mech (Archer is 70 tons vs. the Catapult's 65 tons). I wanted a 'mech that could hold both LRMs and SRMs as well as a PPC for disabling ECM and back-up firepower.

So I built this Awesome:

240 Standard Fusion Engine
Near maximum armor
2 LRM-15s with 3 tons of ammo
2 SRM-4s with 2 tons of ammo
Artemis IV for all of the launchers
1 PPC
The rest DHS (I think I have 15 or 16, can't remember exactly)

This 'mech is pretty much heat neutral. The only time I overheated was when I was brawling at close range on the new desert map, when I ran out of LRM ammo and decided to advance. Firing the PPC and the SRMs had me riding the heat scale.

My strategy for this 'mech: Sit back and lay down LRM support, and fire off a PPC when ever I get the chance. If I discover an ECM 'mech, I hit it with multiple PPC blasts and dowse it with missiles. If an enemy gets close, shoot it with the PPC and SRMs, alternating between SRMs for the close-range target and LRMs for the longer-range targets. When I run out of LRM ammo, advance and help friendlies clean up.

Sure, my AWS-8R isn't as fast as the 70 ton Archer (48 kph vs. 64), but I think the PPC makes up for that by allowing the 'mech to touch targets at a far longer range than quad medium lasers could.

This actually looks nice. An answer for every range, but I daresay it would run hot.

Kudos for using a standard engine. My resistance towards that though would crumble like a fat person on a health kick eyeing off free cake, and I'd probably cram in an xl300. Have you considered using tag also?

I haven't really considered using TAG since the only reason I'd use it would be to cut through ECM. The PPCs seem to do a good job with that, provided that I can find the offending ECM 'mech.

Then again, if I can't find the ECM 'mech, I can TAG those under that electronic umbrella. I'll have to see if I can sacrifice a DHS for TAG.

Very nice build  Personally i would drop the PPC and use a ERLL its 1 less dmg but a whole lot more accurate and draws just a little less heat. PPC in your face = little to no dmg ERLL in ur face still brings the pain. Totally recommend the TAG as well... I need to have a 3rd AWS to complete skill grind and might use this one ;) do you mind posting the load out? What have you named it "The Awesome Archer"
